North Las Vegas is a city in Clark County, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The population was 653,711 as of the 2010 census. North Las Vegas is bordered to the north by Paradise Valley and to the east by Mesquite and Reno. It is located at an elevation of 527 feet (160 meters). The first permanent resident in what is now North Las Vegas was Harry Waddell in 1875. He built a cabin on the edge of what is now known as Marysville in what is now North Las Vegas. The name may have been chosen due to its resemblance to "north" in Spanish. In 1907, Harry Waddell's son-in-law John Laughlin opened a sawmill and lumberyard near today's north side of Interstate 15 and Indian School Road. Laughlin named his mill NorthLasVegas because it faced south on Indian School Road (now I-15 Exit 95A) from where people could see the mountains that form Nevadas southern border. In 1933, Al Kapp organized an effort to build a dam across Raton Creek so that water could be used for irrigation purposes instead of being used for streetlighting and other municipal needs. A group led by Kapp became known as "The Irrigation Pioneers." They were able to get someONE OF THE FIRST GAS PUMPKIN PIPS MADE IN AMERICA upstate New York! For years they managed this operation with ingenuity while also caring for their land and their animals which included four llamas, one warthog, three pigs, five cows and two horses – all living within walking distance of each other on parcels that measure over 120 acres! In 1957 Kapp sold his interest in The Irrigation Pioneers enterprise to Frank Lowenstein who then merged it with another irrigation project called The Aqueduct Company which was started by Major General James Fenton Henderson Jr., later commandant of Camp Verde Army Air Base during World War II who had earlier been headquarter administrator for both projects! Frank Lowenstein renamed himself Northern California Water District #1 after merging his organizations! In 1959 he also founded Nevada Power Corporation which became NV Energy Incorporated after deregulation when NV Energy bought American Electric Power Company (AEP) . Thereafter energy production began at nearby Hoover Dam making Nv Energy one of America’s largest providers of electricity services
