There are many national guard gifts throughout Nevada history. The first national guard gift was given in 1911 when the Nevada Territorial Legislature created the Nevada National Guard. This gift was a rifle, ammunition and an officer’s uniform. In 1924, the Nevada State Legislature passed a bill creating a state national guard. The first officers were appointed with the rank of captain and lieutenant colonel. In 1933, the lieutenant colonel position was eliminated and replaced by brigadier general. In 1975, a law changed the name of theNevada National Guard to The Defense Services Management Board (DSMB). This change in name also gave rise to different types of military hardware that have been given as national guard gifts over time: armored cars, tanks and helicopters. Today, there are over 5200 members of The Defense Services Management Board (DSMB) including active duty soldiers, reservists and retirees from our states of Nevada, Arizona, California, Idaho, New Mexico and Utah. Each state has its ownnational guard detachment which provides support for federal activities within their borders while also maintaining communication with other state guardsmen around the country
The United States National Guard is a militia force of the United States that is charged with defense of the country, its people, and its allies. The National Guard was established in 1792 as an extra-constitutional body of citizens who could be called up to military duty by resolution of Congress. The National Guard has since grown into one of the most disperse and versatile militia forces in North America. The Militia Act of 1792 set out the basic structure and functions of the National Guard. It created a national guard organization composed of state militias (the New York State Militia being the first) as well as Continental Army units transferred from Great Britain. Militia officers were appointed by legislatures, not by President George Washington like officer corps in other countries. The act also authorized soldiers in citizen militias to receive food and clothing at no cost for three months; this provision was repealed following the American Revolution. In 1831, after several years of debate over whether or not to create an army for internal security purposes, Congress passed an act authorizing an army for that purpose if deemed necessary “by virtue bothof our great territory and our numerous population” In 1861, during America’s Civil War, Congress passed another act authorizing 4500 men from each state to join their local volunteer regiments within 72 hours should there be war declared between the U.S., Confederate States (now known as Texas), and Mexico The volunteers hesitated until President Abraham Lincoln called them into service on April 12th 1861 while they were still registered with their respective states Thereafter, all individuals eighteen years or older who wished to enlist in either regular infantry or cavalry forces must have paid $50 per year plus$10 per month for subsistence when enlisted ; if released before honorable discharge without such service then must pay an additional $25 [per year] As a result of these laws it became very difficult for young men not born into wealthy families to become members or commanders in any form Of the military because they needed only provide two dollars per week wages instead Of full payment which would entitle them To plunder free from capture Without consequence . In 1865 new provisions were made which exempted women from joining but male members remained liable For military service at home And Abroad If discharged honorably With distinction National Guardsmen are active duty citizens who can be called up upon request by either your state legislature or president depending on circumstances From 1931 until present day they have been allowed to serve without paying taxes however currently all non-reserves are taxable
The Nevada National Guard has a History in Henderson, Nevada. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports on July 1, 1921 that the first National Guard members were sent to Henderson to help with the 1922 stock market crash. They served until 1935. On November 15th, 1938, the Nevada Legislature passed an act authorizing the organization of a state guard force for purposes of protection against potential violence in the State. The first unit was activated on December 12th and served until 1945. In 1951, Governor Harry Reid called for a review of state guard forces and made it clear that they should be used as part of a national security strategy. On May 8th, 1952 President Harry S Truman issued Executive Order 9471 which ordered all states to arm their guards with automatic weapons and provide them with training in how to use these weapons within 24 hours if necessary. This order also directed that each guard unit be furnished enough ammunition and food to last six months at most. The Nevada National Guard was formally organized on October 1st 1954 when it became one regiment under Headquarters and Service Command (HQ&SC) of United States Army Armed Forces Europe (USAREUR). HQ&SC is headquartered at Casablanca Air Base, Morocco where troops are deployed throughout Europe providing security for NATO member nations vital to USdefense interests including Germany, Austria, Italy and France.
Henderson, Nevada is a small town in Clark County, Nevada. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Henderson County. The economy of Henderson is based on agriculture and ranching. The first European to see Henderson was Spanish trader Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on 27 January 1542 while sailing for Mexico City from San Diego (). He named it Isla de la Motilla, but this probably refers to an uninhabited island in the Baja California Peninsula which he sighted on his next voyage (). The townsite was platted by Wm. A. Hutton in 1867 as part of a larger land grant to Captain John Cushing (). As early as 1868 local prospector George Armstrong established a claim north of present-day Henderson Valley on what is now known as Armstrong's Mesa () east of present-day US Highway 95 (now Interstate 5). In 1870 Abel Dominguez founded Rancho Dominguez in what is now southeast corner of Henderson Valley; this became part of the city limits when the city was incorporated in 1902. A post office called Henderson was established at Geary Creek Crossing on 13 April 1868, and operated until 1 November 1870; it was moved to its current location near present-day US 95 south of town. On 2 October 1880 Ulysses S. Grant visited the area and ordered militia forces stationed at nearby Elko to march into Reno against hostile Paiute Indians (); they successfully repelled their attack that night(). But although most residents resided within city limits until 1902, there were occasional occasions when people ventured out onto open country beyond town boundaries for goods or services available only within close vicinity (). In 1888 cattle rancher James Wacquant bought some Lots 6 and 7 in northeast corner of today’s northwest portion of Henderson Valley from Jnoeph Pahchon (); after years’ cultivation these lands became one major source for hayseed corn production throughout much northeastern NV during the late 19th century/early 20th century
The National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1775. The Guard was first authorized as an act of Congress on July 14, 1775. The National Guard was created to provide help in times of war or national emergency. Over time, the Guards have become more specialized and their role has evolved to include homeland security, disaster response, and ceremonial purposes. One of the earliest uses of the National Guard in America was during the Revolutionary War. George Washington called on all able-bodied men between 18 and 30 years old to assemble at points throughout the country to fight for America. These men were known as “the Constituents” because they were chosen by vote from adult male citizens who had shown themselves willing and able to fight for their country. The Patriot Act authorizes the President to call up any military unit not currently being used in support of U.S. operations abroad into service for one year without reimbursement from Congress. This law also allows for members of friendly foreign countries to enlist in American forces if they meet certain criteria such as being honorably discharged from their current militaries or having served in a peacekeeping or human rights organization before becoming a naturalized American citizen (a process that usually takes two years). The National Guard is exempt from these laws when called into service under specific circumstances such as public health emergencies or acts of terrorism (although it is still required to present uniformed officers at all events). National guard troops have played an important role ever since World War II ended with Japan's surrender. In 1946, after several months of fighting, Korea had been liberated from Japanese occupation and many Koreans living inside Japan were forced into exile by the Japanese government; this group became known as "comfort women." Many Korean soldiers who fought against Japan during World War II received commissions with the rank of lieutenant colonel in the National Guard so that they could continue fighting after hostilities ended. After Korea was liberated, many soldiers decided to stay behind and serve their new nations rather than return home again; this group became known as "theRelated Soldiers." This event led directly to President Truman calling up 2 million reservists into service just days later following reports that General MacArthur's Australian command had committed mass rape and murder against civilians near Tokyo airbase; this action caused outrage around the world due to its heinous nature and sparked concern over whether similar atrocities would happen if similar numbers of troops were mobilized across multiple theaters against another Axis power like Germany or Italy according To John Stockwell, assistant director for research at RAND Corporation: "It is quite clear...that Franklin D Roosevelt felt he needed all those reserves just then because he didn't know what would happen if there wasn't some kind international outcry about MacArthur's actions." After Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7th 1941, most people believed that Nazi Germany had attacked us because we heard about planes flying over our cities late at night! As it turned out, enemy submarines were actually sunk by our navy while our planes patrolled skies above! FDR immediately ordered all available combat units--National Guardsmen included--into action! We fought faithfully along side US Marines until September 1945 when we finally got home!!! This history should never be forgotten!"
