The Marines of the Henderson Marine Corps Base are a proud and dedicated group of patriots who have served our country for over seventy years. The men and women of the Henderson Marine Corps Base strive to beAmerica's best military force, and their gift history helps support that goal. When Marines first arrived in Nevada in 1942, there were just a handful of them stationed at Henderson. Since then, the Marines have played an essential role in Nevadan history by providing security, upholding justice, and exiting into battle with purposeful abandon. From World War II through today's conflicts worldwide, the Marines have always been there to protect us all- whether it be on deployment or domestically. Though they may differ in size and armament (the Marines typically fight with rifles while Navy Seals use handguns), each member of the Henderson Marine CorpBase is a valuable asset to our community. They are selfless fighters who put their lives on the line every day to make America great again. We can thank these marines for their service- both now and past- as we work toward building a brighter future together.

In 2016, the San Diego Battalion sent a book set from their Orange County Brigade as well as chocolates for Marine K-9 Unit Dog Whistle players in Bahrain. Additionally, in 2015, the San Francisco Battalion sent a book set from their Sacramento Brigade as well as chocolates for Marine K-9 Unit Dog Whistle players in Kuwait.

The gift history in Henderson began on December 12, 1941 when the United States shipped two submarines called USS San Diego and USS Helena to the Philippines. These submarines were used as part of the US military's response to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. The Marines who served in the Philippines received submarine gifts such as torpedoes, pistols and cigarettes from the US Navy. On December 15, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor with its first attack against a American naval vessel. This event marked the start of World War II and gave rise to the Marine Corps' gift history in Henderson. The Marines who served in Hawaii received submarine gifts such as torpedoes, pistols and cigarettes from the US Navy. After Pearl Harbor, Japan ordered all Japanese Ships not carrying munitions or war supplies to be sunk immediately. As a result, many submarines including USS San Diego and USS Helena were left stranded at sea with their crews unable to return home until well into 1945. This lack of warning allowed some of these submarines to fall into Japanese hands and were used for propaganda purposes by Japan throughout World War II.
Henderson is a town in Butte County, Nevada, United States. The population was 6,045 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno–Tahoe–Sparks, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area. Henderson first appeared on maps as a small ranching community in 1868. It grew rapidly during the late 19th century and early 20th century due to its location near the gold fields of Northern Nevada and its easy access to railroad tracks and other transportation options. During World War II, Henderson became an important munitions factory for the war effort because of its position near Reno and its access to raw materials from federal forests. After the war, Henderson transitioned into a primarily residential community until it experienced rapid growth in the 1990s due to new development along Interstate 80 and other transportation choices. Today, Henderson remains a historically diverse center with several distinctive neighborhoods including Hillcrest Heights (a gated community), Indian Wells Hills (a split-level neighborhood with large homes dating back to before World War II), Rancho Mirage (a planned community built by developer George Soros), Northlake Village (an open-air shopping mall built on land donated by Harry S Truman) and The Lakeshore Villages (four luxury housing developments completed in 2006). The original name for Henderson was "Laughlin". A post office called Laughlin was established in 1868, but no mail arrived there until 1876. The name change came about because local citizens wanted their town to sound like Las Vegas which had recently gained international fame for its casino resorts. In 1898, residents organized what would become the first city council in what would become Butte County; they named it after John A. Hendersons home state of Tennessee). Henderson's rapid growth came largely through agricultural production; cattle were herded onto ranches that stretched out across eastern Nevada during this time period. By 1910, there were over 1,000 head of livestock within one mile of town limits – more than any other incorporated municipality within Nevada or California combined! With such high livestock numbers comes ample room for people too: by 1920 there were over 10 businesses grouped around three main square blocks downtown! Henderson benefited from both commercial and military action throughout World War II; during hostilities it developed into one of Northern Nevada's most strategic towns as ammunition factories spewed smoke from their facilities into the sky above nearby Reno each day. By 1945 almost all activities at these munitions plants had stopped due to wartime restrictions on RDX munitions – meaning that much of Henderson remained unaffected by increased traffic or gunfire seen throughout much of Reno valley during those years! Today, Henderson is known mainly for its agriculture; although some industrial activity still exists around downtown area including manufacturing of plastic products used in car seats and children's toys (), among others (). However many residents have turned their attention towards architecture/design - having seen significant growth in art galleries (), nightlife () and professional services (). Notable natives include Mayor Dave Baughman (), Yoga teacher Raji Chavi ()and real estate agent Rick Hanley (); while also enjoying being close neighbors to famed Las Vegas casinos such as MGM Grand Garden Arena ()
