The city's first grocery store, Northwest Grocery, started selling coffee in 1941. The local paper the Sioux City Journal started serving coffee on October 17th of that year. In 1951, the city's first roastery opened and served Columbian Coffee beans until 1984. In 1974, the local United States Postal Service offered a free package of Columbian Coffee beans to every customer who used their service. South Sioux City, Nebraska is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska, located on the Missouri River. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 113,827. It is the county seat for Douglas County and has aowntown area totaling over 1½ square miles (3 km²). The central business district contains about 150 businesses and services including banks, healthcare facilities, restaurants and retailers. South Sioux City is home to two major professional sports teams: the Omaha Storm Chasers and Lincoln Labels baseball team. The site of present-day South Sioux City was first settled by Native Americans in 1795 as part of what would become Douglas County. The town was renamed after General Anthony Wayne during his 1806 campaign against Tecumseh's United States Indian Association at Forts Kearney and Doniphan. In 1857, Douglas County was organized as Nebraska Territory following Arapaho removal from Iowa to Oklahoma under President John Quincy Adams' executive order 482–1. On November 15, 1861 – three days before Abraham Lincoln became president – Douglas County was organized into Lincoln County with its capital at Omaha; however, it ceased to exist on March 26th due to split within Lincoln County along tribal lines over issues around education funding. On October 3rd 1889 an Act entitled "An act for organizing and providing for government in said territory" was passed by Congress which created Dodge City as its territorial capital; however this also ceased to exist when Dodge City consolidated with Omaha on January 1st 1890 according to territorial laws then in force at that time; Dodge City's primary purpose being commercial rather than political center like prior capitals council meetings were held at Union Hall until 1893 when they switched back to South Sioux City hall until 1907 when they moved again back into DodgeCity where they remain today as branch offices of various departments subordinate only thereto such as military/police functions currently managed out of Kearney NE

South Sioux City, Nebraska is a city located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The population was 33,953 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Nebraska after Omaha. It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The city was founded on July 8, 1871 by farmers and ranchers from Iowa who had come to drill oil wells near what is now South Sioux City. The first post office was established in 1870 and the first school opened in 1875. The town grew rapidly due to its location near a railroad station and easy access to water supplies that made it an attractive place to live and work. In 1915, South Sioux City became one of nineteen settlements in Lincoln County designated as a site for a new Civic Center because of its potential for development as a center for industry, commerce, education, and cultural activities within the county seat cities of Lincoln and Council Bluffs. On September 27, 1930 South Sioux City received its charter from the Nebraska Legislature which gave it full municipal status with powers including taxation, government regulation of business operations, zoning regulations (including restrictions on building heights), electricity generation/purchase/use regulation; planning functions; certain public works such as street paving or road maintenance; authority over local fire departments; creation of special taxing districts within boundaries defined by municipalities; establishment of boards or commissions with specific powers conferred by charter or other legislation granting them jurisdiction over matters mentioned therein; annexation by neighboring communities not included within the original municipality where they may elect officials under their own ordinances subject only to those laws governing such annexed communities rather than those governing South Sioux City proper
