Papillion is a small town in central Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Papillion" means "settlement on the creek." The first residents of this area were the Kiowa and Pawnee Indians. They built their homes out of logs and poles. In 1854, General George Armstrong Custer led his cavalry unit through this area during the Nebraska State Fair and encountered these Indian resistance fighters near present-day Papillion. After successfully concluding his campaign against Native Americans, Custer named this area after himself, Papillion (pronounced "pah-puhnuh"). In 1907, a post office was established at Papillion with mail sent from Lincoln and Kearney. When Highway 66 was completed in 1959, it passed through this community and connected it to other nearby towns. The population of Papillion continued to grow until 2000 when it peaked at 1,811 people. Since then, population growth has been slow due to various factors such as retirements and reductions in farm production. In recent years there have been efforts by local businesses to revive the economy by creating new jobs within the community rather than selling products outside of it; however these efforts have not had much success so far. Today many residents still live close to their farms or churches which are still an important part of their lives; however some families have moved away in order to find better paying opportunities elsewhere in America or internationally

Papillion is a city in Nebraska, United States. The population was 7,812 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Lincoln–Des Moines–Hastings Metropolitan Statistical Area. The story of Papillion begins with two men: Brigham Young and his brother Orson Pratt. They were both Mormon missionaries who came to Nebraska in 1847 to begin preaching the gospel to the Native American people there. Brigham Young decided that he would found a new colony in what is now Papillion, and Orson Pratt took up the challenge and founded the town on land that he had claimed from the Sioux Tribe. In 1868, when Omaha was formed from parts of three separate Nebraska counties, Papillion became a part of that newly created city. Papillion has had its share of highs and lows throughout its centuries-long history. Its early settlers were some of the most ardent converts to Mormonism ever seen in this country; however, they soon lost their faith after encountering many obstacles along their way such as floods and disease. In 1870, following Utah's admission into the Union as a state, Brigham Young ordered all Mormons living within 4 miles (6 km) of Salt Lake City to leave for fear that they might be forced out by federal forces if they did not convert to Mormonism or leave Utah for good. Many residents chose instead to move away from what seemed like an evangelical society where they could only hope for salvation through baptism atonement – something which was not possible for them back home – setting off what is known as Papillion's "Blackout Year". In 1984, following years of drought and loss of farmland due largely to overgrazing on Plains Indian hunting grounds adjacent to papillonese properties, Mayor Bud Stephens announced plans for development within sight of downtown Papillion without first consulting any local elected officials or community members – an action which led to public outcry and eventually resulted in Stephens being removed from office after just four months in office. After several unsuccessful attempts at starting over including relocating papillonese residents back onto native reservations close by while still providing services such as water storage and irrigation systems without infringing on tribal rights (following recommendations made by a committee chaired by then-Governor Bruce Babbitt), Stephens finally bowed out of plans altogether and sold all property surrounding downtown Papillion back into Native American hands before leaving office in January 2008. Today, much like it did during its pioneer days when men like Brigham Young preached Truths unto these ungodly peoples about Jesus Christ our Lord & Savior - so too do we today! There are numerous churches located throughout town both Protestant & Catholic - many people who live here because it provides quality education & opportunities outside your everyday routine...It truly does feel like Home!
