The area that would become Omaha was occupied by several villages before it became a town in 1852. In 1854, Jens Jensen founded Omaha on land donated by Roy Bean. The city grew rapidly during the 1850s due to railroads coming through Douglas County and easy access to water resources – which led to development in businesses like lumberyards, breweries, hotels, grain elevators, cattle drives and packinghouses along both rivers. In 1865, Douglas County was organized into three parts: easternDouglas County became Omaha; westernDouglas County became Hastings; and centralDouglas County remained unorganized until annexation by Omaha in 1904. During World War II an expanded Boeing plant was built just east of downtown Omaha on what is now Emporia Road for use by military aircraft manufacturers Raytheon and Boeing; this resulted in increased growth for downtown between 1945-1949 when much housing was built for workers who had replaced manufacturing jobs lost during World War II. Streetcars ran past Union Station from Downtown to Northwood from 1951 until they were discontinued in 1957 following lunchtime service while new Interstate Highway 80 opened up nearby making it easier for drivers to get around town without having to walk or take public transportation. In 1962 Albertson's store opened near Blair Boulevard northeast of downtown; this led to increased growth northward along Blair Boulevard which continues today with Albertson's headquarters complex across from Millennium Park

The Netherlands became the world’s leading importer of coffee after they developed a large variety of plantations in South America. Coffee production increased rapidly throughout the 19th century as new types of beans were bred and improved. In 1855, Nicholas-Jacques Conte founded La Criolla roasting company in New Orleans, which became one of the world’s most successful roasters. By 1912, over 50% of all English-made espresso cups were made from robusta beans. In 1899, Italian immigrants founded Parma Coffee Company near Parma, Italy, which is still one of the world’s largest bean companies today. Between 1870 and 1910, about 60 different cultivars were grown for espresso use in Italy alone; however only 2-3%of all total Italian roastings are pure robusta beans today!
In 1847, a group of coffee farmers in the town of Boca Raton, Florida founded a small business called The Coffee and Tea Merchants. They imported beans from Colombia and roasted them on their own premises. In 1929, they merged with another small business to form The Coffee Corporation. Their first store opened in 1932 in downtown Boca Raton. The company soon became known for its high-quality coffee products, which were sold throughout the United States and internationally. In 1957, The Coffee Corporation merged with two other companies to create one of the largest coffee companies in the world, Roasting Company Incorporated (RCI). RCI continued to produce high-quality coffee until it was acquired by Peet's Coffee Incorporated in 2006.
Omaha, Nebraska was first settled in 1856 by the Omaha and Council Bluffs people. The city was founded on the site of present day downtown Omaha by a group of men led by James W. Kearny. In 1868, the city became the capital of Nebraska when it was moved from Council Bluffs to Omaha. The city's population rapidly grew during the late 19th century, reaching 10,000 in 1900. Growth slowed during World War I and World War II as Omaha'S economy remained largely agricultural. However, growth resumed in the 1960s and 1970s as Omaha became one of America's leading industrial cities. In the late 1990s, Omaha started to experience a resurgence with new development coming online such as downtown streets being cleaned up and new theaters opening up.
