The Nebraska National Guard was organized on November 24, 1907 under the command of Major General George Armstrong Custer. The unit was initially called the 3rd Battalion, Nebraska Volunteer Infantry. On December 11, 1907, the battalion became the 1st Battalion and changed its name to the 2nd Battalion on January 14, 1908. The 2nd Battalion participated in World War I and also served in a number of other wars until it was disbanded on September 15, 1946. The North Platte National Guard presently consist of two battalions: The 1st Battalion (Blue) and The 2nd Battalion (Green). These units were originally activated on October 15th, 2004 as part of Operation Noble Eagle which is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. In addition to their military duties these units have been mobilized for events such as cowboy dances and pancake breakfast fundraisers.

North Platte, Nebraska is a small town in the U.S. state of Nebraska and the county seat of Lincoln County. The population was 551 as of the 2010 census. It lies in the west-central part of Lincoln County and is bordered by Fremont County to the east, Kearney County to the south, and Osborne County to the west. North Platte is located on Nebraska's border with Kansas. The first Europeans to visit what is now North Platte were French traders who arrived in 1765 while fur trading expeditions were being organized through Great Lakes Territory by France and Spain. In 1812, when Osage Indians lived near present day North Platte, General James Fenton decided they needed to be removed due to their raiding activity which had killed settlers along Iowa's lower Omaha River valley since 1810. Fenton ordered Major John William Eaton, then at Fort Laramie in Dodge City, Kansas, to march his battalion northwest from that point with two companies of infantry under Captain Samuel Colt until he reached the forks of the Little Missouri River where he would cross overland and attack them from upstream (present day O'Neill Springs). By February 1813 Eaton had collected 1,500 men including 400 cavalrymen under Colonel Augustus Davenport who crossed overland on horseback from Council Bluffs on March 6th and attacked an opposing force numbering about 2200 Indian warriors at Hanging Rock Creek just north of present day North Platte village site according to contemporary reports Lt Col George Armstrong Herron reported that even though only 30% or so of his forces could join him en route they surprised "the enemy so well posted" that "they did not make any resistance." A treaty was made which forced all but 250 miles (400 km) of buffalo territory east of latitude 45° N into Indian hands; this area became known as Dakota Territory after United States President Abraham Lincoln appointed Major General George Crook as its first Territorial Governor in 1862 One result was that many settlers started arriving around 1830 simply because there was no other place for them in Lincoln County This led also to a boomtown atmosphere similar to one found today at neighbouring Wichita Falls where oil production began shortly before World War II . According to local historian Dr Jeffrey Ladd: "North Platte quickly became one of America’s most important towns during its post-Civil War period as a center for trade with both India and Mexico." The town prospered thanks largely to flour exports which totaled $2 million per year by 1860; cattle raising followed soon afterwards becoming a significant sector; however manufacturing went into decline during the 1900s due mainlyto competition from cheaper imports Some notable businesses include Anheuser Busch Brewing Co., Kellogg international food products company (now KFC), Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company (later AIG) and Ford Motor Company North Platte has been home notably also to Mount Rushmore National Monument since 1915 The current economic conditions have resulted in some shrunken services sectors such as restaurants being among those hardest hit; however overall joblessness rates are relatively low given recent trends nationally As recently as 2000-01 there were more than 275 businesses operating out OFN [Omaha Gateway Business District] alone including many high tech startups Additionally approximately 100 people worked for Boeing Defense Incorporated adjacent airport providing air taxi service between Omaha Airport and Wichita Falls ; currently this operation provides about 50 jobs Thirteen percent offered full time positions plus benefits Randolph Air Force Base is across US Highway 26 about 8 miles northeast serving KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft ammo loading sites transport cargo throughout Nebraska

During World War II, the Guards served in both the United States and Europe. They played an important role in stopping Nazi Germany from achieving victory on two continents. After the war, many Guardsmen decided to retire or become officers. Today, there are over 320,000 active National Guard members across the United States. They play an important role in society by providing security for government buildings and events, helping with disaster relief efforts, and providing manpower for military exercises. The North Platte River, located in Nebraska, forms the eastern border of the state. It flows north and then east for nearly its entire length before turning south near the metropolis of Omaha. The river's namesake, who founded this area in 1867, was Lafayette Wheeler. The first post office was established at North Platte on July 1, 1868. Located in what is now southern Nebraska and Iowa, Wheeler's town grew rapidly due to his successful lumber business. In 1902, a dam was constructed on the river by the United States Army Corps of Engineers to improve navigation and increase power for irrigation purposes. The town became known as "Wheeler City." In 1907, North Platte became a city Limits Town when it annexed all of neighboring townships along its western border. In 1912, Omaha incorporated as a city and Wheelers City ceased to exist as an enclosing municipality. By 1980, however, Wheeler City had regained some development status because it lies within the boundaries of Central Omaha District School District No. 3A which serves students from North Platte through Lincoln Elementary School and Sunnyside Middle School (formerly South High). The history of agriculture in Nebraska begins with early settlers coming here from England around 1620 AD seeking new land for their crops and herds after being expelled from their homeland during that year’s religious persecution called “the Great Calf-Stomping” that targeted Protestants throughout much of Europe including England itself. This event marks one of the earliest recorded examples of organized violence against Protestant denominations in America which continues to this day with occasional outbreaks across different states including Nebraska where beliefs still differ about how best to deal with those who do not share our beliefs or practices despite efforts by our government at every level to promote common understanding and tolerance between people from various groups living together without fear or hostility based on difference rather than religion or Belief System only! As farming became more complex over time thanks to improvements made in technology such as manure storage systems and water harvesting techniques like ditches dug long below ground allowing plants access both moisture & sunlight while also providing cover from predators & other animal threats; markets for these goods developed throughout America westward expanding far beyond just rural areas into large cities such as Boston & New York becoming one important reason why prices for goods sold abroad plummeted during depression years making cross-border trade possible once again! With advances came challenges too however as diseases like smallpox continuedto spread easily via contact with infected animals leading many families moving out west during times OF great epidemics creating waves of refugees often called “Battleship Missouri” type stories about pioneer families fighting off disease-ridden hordes en route leaving everything they knew behind hoping only that they would make it back alive! Today we know more about smallpox virus & how it can be contracted through contact with others but there are still many battles fought daily against diseases like malaria which continue To affect us here today even after 40 years since preventable deaths occurred thanks largely to modern medical technologies!
In 1854, the first post office was established on the east side of North Platte. The town name was changed to Omaha in 1868. Omaha was officially incorporated as a city in 1903.
