North Platte, Nebraska is a city in Nebraska and is the county seat of Kearney County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 108,782. North Platte is located on the Missouri River in northeastern Nebraska. The city was founded by General George Armstrong Custer in 1854 as Fort Kearney and became a town after he abandoned it in 1855. It was named for General John A. North, who helped Winfield Scott defeat Mexican forces at Buena Vista Creek on October 6, 1847. The city's first school opened in 1857 and its first post office was established in 1860. In 1862, the Union Army burned down the old fortifications near downtown to prevent Confederate forces from using it as a base of operations during their Battle of Buena Vista Creek. North Platte residents responded with an early effort to reconstruct their destroyed town; they raised $3,000 within six weeks and erected new buildings that remain standing today including a Masonic lodge (1862), churches (1863), public library (1865), cotton gin (1868), water works (1868-69), telephone company building (1907) and now part of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus. In 1865, North Platte became one of several townships within Kearney County when it was organized from parts of neighboring York and Leavenworth counties. At that time, Kearney County had a total population of about 362 settlers out of a total population for all Iowa County range around 2,500 people at that time according to Iowa Census Records . In 1870s there were many railroad projects being planned through Kearney County which would have impacted how much land area would be developed but these projects never came to fruition due to funding shortages brought on by World War I . The Oliver Ames Library Building opened its doors in 1907 just south east corner Main Street across from what is now known as "Nebraska Avenue". This building served as both the county courthouse until 1915 when that structure burned down and replaced with what is now known as "Old Courthouse Square" inside what was then First National Bank Building before becoming South Main Street again prior to finally opening up shop upstairs atrium/commercial space currently home to Lincoln Hall since 1957 after years long renovation project costing over $100 million dollars! This library addition became one half mile west side street between Third Street NW & Broadway NE along State Street US B1Y 0A2 - also home since 1987(!) to Lincoln Hall’s Academic Center! This process continues with other important buildings like Administration Building behind First National Bank building then turning north onto State Street continuing past Old CourthouseSquare into present day Nebraskan Plaza across from Memorial Union ahead ending up back at Memorial Union once again becoming ThirdStreetNW & BroadwayNE before heading northwest back south along this corridor eventually terminating northeast at Interstate 244 exit #5 which will take you right outside Omaha proper

North Platte, Nebraska is a small town located in the United States of America. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kearny County and the largest city in Kearny County by population. North Platte is also home to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, one of the most popular universities in the United States. The first settlement in what is now Kearny County was made by John Charles Fremont on July 4, 1846. He named it after General David Hunter's Rancho San Miguel de Atacama near modern-day Albuquerque, New Mexico. The town began as an agricultural community with a few homes and businesses being built until about 1880 when a post office was established and freight trains became common through Kearny County for transporting goods from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Omaha, Nebraska Territory. In 1886, North Platte became one of several towns within Lincoln County when that county was organized from parts of Laramie and Douglas Counties. The name change came about because many people living near North Platte thought it sounded like "north pole". In 1907, North Platte had a population of 14 residents when its first school opened; however, this school closed in 1911 due to financial problems caused by World War I which devastated Lincoln County financially. During World War II much activity took place within Kearny and neighboring counties related to military supplies needed for war efforts across all nation borders including his native country Japan where tens of thousandsOf Americans died during open air Hiroshima/ Nagasaki bombings on August 6th 1945 - thus endangering our civilians as well who were living adjacent to Hiroshima City Limits; yet we continue our stupidPoliticians policies today which only serve Corporate greed insteadof helping everyday American families! The first Europeans to discover the Nebraska Territory were United States Explorers John S. Nicollet and James K. Polk in 1846. The area was discovered by George Armstrong Custer during his 1887 Dakota Expedition when he found an Indian trail that led from the Great Lakes region to the Platte River. In 1868, when the Nebraska Territory was created, it included all of present-day Nebraska as well as parts of Iowa, Kansas, and Wyoming.
