The United States Air Force has been a vital and important part of the country’s military for many years. The service is known for its airplanes and missiles, but it also includes a rich history of airforce gift giving. One of the first USAF units to be formed was the 2d Bombardment Wing in 1942. The wing was tasked with providing strategic bombardment support for Allied forces during World War II. One of their most famous missions was the raid on Hiroshima in 1945. Since then, the USAF has continued to provide strong support to both American and global allies. In 1993, they were renamed as the 5th Bombardment Wing (Light). This unit provides strategic bombardment support for NATO forces as well as operations within partner nations. Today, there are over 580 operational USAF wings and squadrons across America – making them one of America’s most diverse militaries. Each wing and squadron offers something different to those who serve within them, from fighter pilots training at home to missileikers working in Iceland or Afghanistan. The Norfolk Air Force Base Museum (NORFAM) is a museum located at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia. It is home to the world's largest collection of World War II military aircraft and spacecraft. The museum was founded in 1969 as the air force gift shop on base. In 1992, it became an official museum, and in 2003 it moved from its original building on John F. Kennedy Drive to its current complex on Arleigh Burke Boulevard. The history of the air force gift shop begins with Lt. Col. Edwin J. "Buzz" Aldrin's donation of an RAF Spitfire Mk V1 fighter to the base in 1969 as a memorial for his father, Major General Wesley Haggard, who had been killed months earlier while leading Operation Overlord in France. In 1978, Majestic Airlines donated two DC-8s which served as the foundation for what would become the Museum's Aircraft Collection. That same year also saw the donation of Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye air reconnaissance planes by then-Lt.- Colonel James Webb III., one of America's first astronauts and future director of NASA; these planes were used by both NORFAM and USAF ATC during aerial surveys over Earth during Operation Desert Storm I and II! In 1990, NORFAM purchased two McDonnell Douglas MD-80A jetliners which served as its first aircraft exhibit; these planes were used for static displays and tours throughout the Museum throughout their life span before being retired from service in 2009. In 2000, NORFAM received its first Boeing 747 airplane when United Airlines donated one of their former Boeing 727 series airplanes; this plane served as both a touring airliner and primary exhibit within NORFAM until it was retired from service in 2004. The Museum also received its first supersonic stealth fighter when Lockheed Martin donated Sabre fighters which were operated by USAF Tactical Air Command during Operation Neptune's Spear off Somalia in 1998.

This addition to our Aircraft Collection was followed by another major donation when American Airlines donated fourteen McDonnell Douglas MD-87 turbojetliners which provided support for active duty USAF pilots flying nuclear missions over Japan duringOperation Shuri

This display featured exhibits about how fuel economy has changed since WWII due to advances such as turbofan engines - showing how even small differences can have large impacts on performance

Finally, we welcomed our newest addition to our Aircraft Collection when Delta Air Lines donated four Airbus A380s – becoming only the third airline to donate an entire fleet of mainline Airbus jets

Norfolk, Nebraska is a small town in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The population was 5,004 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Micropolitan Statistical Area. Norfolk is located on the Missouri River and has a humid subtropical climate. The first settler in Norfolk was Nathan Bedford Forrest, an American frontiersman and Confederate general who lived in what is now Norwich from 1836 to 1840. Forrest's ranch attracted settlers during the 1850s and 1860s as there were few other places in Kansas that offered fertile ground for agriculture after Kansas City was founded in 1854. The first post office in Norfolk was established in 1868, but it did not open until 1870 due to lack of mail service from Council Bluffs, Iowa Territory. Norfolk experienced rapid growth during the late 1800s as new transportation links were built along the Missouri River: railroads arrived with traffic increasing from farmers seeking markets for their products to tourists looking for views of the river gorge or rural scenes reminiscent of revolutionary America. In 1901, Norfolk became one of three towns located within Nebraska City limits when that city incorporated as a result of a land ordinance passed by Nebraska General Assembly member John Cavanaugh (D). After years of debate over whether or not to annex more adjacent rural communities, Nebraska City ultimately annexed Norfolk into its boundaries on July 1, 1912; however, Norfolk continued to operate as an independent village until 1959 when it joined Lincoln municipal government under one consolidated financial authority In 1990, Norwich became one of several towns and villages within Lincoln Municipal District #5 when that district was created followingNebraska's campaign promise to provide "the best possible quality of life" by merging all local governments into one entity During World War II much activity took place near Norwich due to military training exercises conducted at nearby Fort Riley which included air bombardment rehearsal missions over Omaha Beach on D-Day

This area had a combined population of over 120,000 people as of2010
