Tom had been working at an Omaha post office while he attended college and found that he loved coffee so much that he decided to start his own business. His first purchase was a pot of Maxwell House coffee from a friend in town. From there, Tom began buying beans from different roasters in Nebraska and even started bringing them back home to Duncanville, Illinois where he would grind them himself. By the early 1970s, Tom had founded his own company and began selling Tactical Coffee products throughout the Midwest. In 1978, Don opened his own coffee house in Lexington called The Fuzzy Wuzzy which quickly became known for its delicious and well-crafted Tactical Coffee products. In recent years, The Fuzzy Wuzzy has been closed down but their legacy continues on as one of the most popular outdoor cafes in the area with its beautiful yard full of historical artifacts and original artwork from the early days of Tactical Coffee.

The result was what would eventually be known as "The City" – an all-new mixed-use development anchored by two large mall complexes – One near State Street (the heart of The Strip) and one just north of Interstate 80 off US Highway 20A; Factories dating back to before World War II surrounded these complexes with extensive parking garages; There were no schools located within miles so elementary students living nearby took instruction from neighboring towns while middle school students took classes at Union High School until it closed in 1984; In terms of employment opportunities only about 10% percent came from outside the city limits but jobs generated more than $225 million worth economic activity over its thirty year lifespan!
