The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gift baskets to friends and family in the Nebraska town of Lexington. The museum is located on an airfield in Honduras, where more than 1,500 personnel from all branches of the military have served since World War II. The United States Air Force flew two B-17 Flying Fortress bombers from RAF Mildenhall, England for training at the American base in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The planes were delivered on December 11 and 12, 1941 and arrived in Lexington on December 16th. A detachment of airmen from the 376th Bombardment Wing participated in a Christmas party for the local residents onDecember 25th.
Lexington is a small town in Nebraska, United States. The population was 7,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs-Hawkeye City metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1854 by members of the Kansas Mormon Battalion as a wagon stop on the Missouri River for travelers between Nauvoo and Dodge City. The name "Lexington" was chosen because it conveyed the idea that this would be a place where people from all over could gather to trade goods and chat about common interests. In 1882, Lexington became one of three towns to be chartered as an Augustana University campus when the university moved from Iowa to Omaha. In 1916, Lexington became home to its first high school when Lincoln High School opened on donated land just east of downtown. In 1984, Lexington voters passed a referendum asking if they should become an independent city and have their own police department (they did not). The decision was made not to move forward with the request, but it remains something that residents discuss periodically. On February 12th, 2008, Lexington voters approved incorporation into Omaha as an all-encompassing municipality known as "Lexington Park". This move followed years of discussion surrounding whether or not Lexington should become more autonomous than it currently is due to concerns around infrastructure development within the town limits; however, this effort ultimately failed and all city services are now provided by Omaha Police Department officials within the confines of Lexington Park boundaries

The USAF is responsible for providing nuclear deterrence, conducting aerial refueling operations, and supporting ground troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to its hardware, the USAF also deploys a diverse set of personnel and resources to support its missions. This paper will explore how the USAF has deployed gift history over the years. One of the most famous gifts given to the USAF was Project Mercury. On July 5, 1961, President John F Kennedy gave his inaugural address with an oath proclaiming America “the land that puts men into space”. He then ordered NASA Administrator Neil Armstrong to establish Project Mercury as a national priority. The goal of Project Mercury was to develop an American manned spacecraft capable of going into orbit around Earth within five years. To date, only two humans have completed this journey: Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. With such a long history of gift giving, it is interesting to see how different individuals have chosen to give back to their community through their actions in service to others.
