The nuns raised money for renovations to the school building which were completed in 1918. The new La Vista High School opened its doors to students on November 3, 1918. The post-World War II boom in Nebraska brought prosperity to La Vista, as well as many other towns and rural areas across the state. factories mushroomed throughout Nebraska, creating jobs for local residents. However, during this time period there were also some negative aspects of growth that affected both locals and businesses: high unemployment rates; increased crime; infrastructure deterioration; and environmental problems such as air pollution andacid rain. Bourgeois values clashed with those of working class citizens when it came to decisions about how best to handle these challenges head-on. One example is the struggle over zoning laws that regulated development within certain boundaries - often limiting housing options for people who couldn't afford more expensive spots on Main Street or Boulevard Avenue near downtown La Vista (i.e., people of color). This ordinance helped create an enclave around downtown that sustained gentrification until recently while also contributing significantly to high levels of traffic congestion on main drag arteries like Boulevard Avenue between northward direction I-80 exit #214W (the "Downtown Loop")and southward direction I-680 exit #213W (the "Fremont Loop").
