Coffee has been enjoyed by people all over the world for centuries. The first coffeehouses were opened in Venice, Italy in the 16th century and roasted beans were imported from Africa. Coffee gradually became popular in America, where it was first brewed commercially in 1795. The Dutch East India Company served as the first international coffee house chain, with locations throughout North America. In Fremont, Nebraska, a grocery store called the Dutchman's only had a small café on its premises until 1914 when ranchers began to lease space to sell coffee and pastries from their Ranch House bakery. In 1917, entrepreneur Willard Means bought the business and renamed it "The Dutchman's Café" in honor of his father-in-law who ran the establishment before him. The café continued operations as a family owned business until 1966 when it was sold to Lorenzo Hoyle who changed its name to "The Java Junction". In 1978,1975-1980s owner Don Burt agreed to relocate Java Junction Cafe upstairs at 907 N First Street after some of his employees moved out of state during the aggressive real estate market at that time. He reopened Java Junction Cafeteria under new management on November 3rd of that year with roast beef sandwiches and creamed corn as sole menu items followed by flavored syrups such as raspberry lemonade or strawberry grapefruit juice for added variety. After years of successful operation under new ownership, Java Junction Cafe closed its doors for good on February 26th of 2019 due to budgetary constraints within Buena Vista Coffee & Tea Corporation which bought out Don Burt's share in Jajaja Coffeeland

Some notable residents from this era include Jack Welch (founder Today's Inc.), Bob Hope (comedian and owner of US Steel Corp.), Dick Cheney (Cheney became Vice President under George W Bush) and Don Freeman (presidential candidate Gary Johnson).
