Bellevue, Nebraska is a town in Lincoln County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Bellevue is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs-Hastings Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bellevue is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bellevue was platted in 1881 by investors from Omaha who were looking for an area to build a new city. The town was named after General Edmund Schiele, who had come to Nebraska as an army officer in 1868 and helped found Kearney. The first post office opened in Bellevue on December 10, 1881. The first store in Bellevue was "The Store" operated by Jens Jorgensen and his brother Peder Jorgensen until it burned down on October 26, 1888. A second store, "The Hardware", opened on November 1, 1888 and became the first grocery store in Bellevue. Harry Wessels ran the business until his death in 1952; it then passed through several owners before being purchased by Dick Hildebrandt in 1984 and renamed "Shoemaker's". In 1984–1985 Shoeemaker's moved into their current location next to the school district building which they have been occupying since that year. In 1912 Bellevue established its own hospital with Dr John Coyle as its first medical director . It closed its doors permanently due to lack of funding twelve years later but reopened as a smallpox ward under Dr Edward Breen from 1933 until its closure again due to lack of funds two decades later . In 1957 Bellevue established their own library which served as both a branch library for Council Bluffs and also functioned as a research library for local colleges . In 1992–1994 BellevUE built their current high school campus which serves not only residents of BellevUE but also students from surrounding communities including Council Bluffs and Hastings (now Hastings)

It is part of the Omaha metropolitan area. Bellevue is located on both banks of the Mississippi River and straddles its confluence with Ottawa Street to its east and I-680 to its west. The first Europeans to enter what is now Bellevue were French traders working for La Salle in 1679. They named their village after a small stream that flowed through their territory on the Missouri River north of present-day Omaha City. By 1847, Bellevue had become an important trading center due to its location between two major rivers and its easy access to goods from Eastern Iowa and Illinois via steamboats traveling downriver each season. In 1854, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of United States and traveled downriver to visit his friend David Dixon in Bellevue during his campaign trail stop at this site. This event helped spur development around Bellevure as businesses began trading with Washington Territory (now Idaho) and other parts of America During the American Civil War, many residents served in Union or Confederate units; some also worked as farmers or bosses in nearby cities such as Omaha andCouncil Bluffs before returning home once hostilities ended. After the war, many veterans returned home but few new businesses came online until 1978 when Sears ` opened up a department store on south Broadway which soon became known as "The Mall." In 1907, Harry S Truman became President of America while he was campaigning for office; he made frequent trips back up river to campaign at various places including Bellevue where he rested before continuing his journey downstream towards Omaha eventually arriving at The Palace July 4th night just days after being sworn into office! On October 2nd 1923 local school board member Tom Hickey founded The Harry S Truman School District #4 which would grow into one of America's most prominent education districts serving students from pre-Kindergarten through high school graduation! In 1949 Douglas MacArthur served as Commanding General of all United States Forces Southwest Asia during Operation Thunderbolt which took place just outside current day Bellevure; this event helped bring about much economic development within that area along with many new homes being built thanks in part to federal funding given by then Secretary Of Defense James Forrestal! On May 1st 2018 Mayor Donny Dean announced plans for a $2 million project called "BellevUE: A Creative Community Reinvestment Plan" that will create jobs across multiple industries including music production, fashion design, tech startups etcetera while also promoting public art installations throughout town square and downtown areas related to community issues or events taking place within Bellevure like Art Month etcetera
