The Missoula Army National Guard unit has been deployed in support of the U.S. military on a number of occasions throughout its history. TheMissoula AAGN detachment was first organized on November 15, 1918 and served as part of the 8th Infantry Division during World War I. In 1945, the detachment was reactivated as part of the 4th Infantry Division and served in Korea before being deactivated in 1966. On July 24, 1968, a Missoula AAGN detachment participated in Operation Just Cause II when American troops invaded Panama.
