The Kalispell Police Department has a rich history dating back to 1881. The department was founded by Captain John P. Heisey and first served the town of Kalispell. In 1903, the department moved to its current location on Main Street in downtownKalispell. The department has since grown to include a number of different units including an area response unit, a tactical narcotics unit, and a hostage negotiators unit. Kalispell was founded in 1872 by wagon drivers looking for a new place to live after their previous base of operations in Great Falls, Montana had been destroyed by fire. From this period until around 1990s Kalispell experienced significant growth as an agricultural center with many housing developments being built along Wagon Road and elsewhere in downtown; however it has since become more diversified with some light industry based businesses (such as a paper mill) and several high-end restaurants/cafés beginning to emerge throughout recent years clamoring for space within walking distance from either downtown or one of three shopping malls located just outside town limits: Grand Forks Mall (just east of merger point between US 1 & MT 95), Park City Mall (northwest corner of I-90 Business Loop & MT 287) or Big Sky Mall (southwest corner I-15 exit). The population explosion that began occurring during late 1990s caused problems for both public services such as police officers and firefighters who could not keep up with demand; accordingly Kalispell entered into receivership in 2002 amidst allegations made against various individuals overcharges on fees associated with building permits issued prior to that time which totaled $27 million ($ today). Kalispell, Montana is a small town located in the Eastern Montana Congressional district and is part of the Helena-based 6th congressional district. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Kalispell is named after Alexander McKenzie, an early settler in what is now the town. The first people to live in what is now Kalispell were probably around 1814 when French traders and fur trappers arrived in this area. By 1827, there were about 50 settlers living here. The first school was built here in 1828. In 1868, Kalispell became a city and it retained that status until 1959 when it reverted back to a village under state jurisdiction. In 1863, General Ulysses S Grant occupied this area during the American Civil War as part of his campaign to capture Fort Benton from Confederate forces. Aftermath of the war saw many destroyed buildings as Union troops razed everything they found while also destroying any slave holdings that remained onthe southern side of the river (this event known as "The Battle of Helena"). This policy led to rapidrowth for Kalispell thanks to government jobs and agricultural production which continues up through present day; however, recent economic conditions have caused some decline in both employment and home prices within the city limits Currently almost all businesses are LOCAL or do business out-of-state with limited impact on local economy However much like other small towns throughout America over time some aspects may decline while others increase due to community spirit fostered by residents themselves According to a study done by Gartner Inc., “Most microcosms exhibit stability over time despite dramatic changes brought about by technological advances” so long as key cultural traits remain constant including communal ownership/control of assets (housing), strong sense of community identity, low levels of corruption etc .
