The Kalispell Coffee Company was founded in 1905 by Mr. and Mrs. John Waddell in the small town of Kalispell, Montana. The coffee business began as a single-row, kaldi-roasted coffee beans found on the lower slopes of the Rocky Mountains. In 1916, two brothers named Harry and Earle Scudder started a small grocery store in nearby Butte that sold fresh roasted coffeebeans from their farmstead down the street from the Kalispell Coffee Company. It was at this time that Mr. Scudder introduced his famous "Scudder's Coffee" blend to taste buds all over America. From its humble beginnings as a roaster of pure kaldi-roasted coffee beans, Kalispell Coffee has evolved into one of America's leading roasters of high quality espresso and Turkish black coffees. In 1946, Kalispell became home to America's first nuclear power plant when Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) operator Westinghouse Electric Company built reactor number 4 at what is now called Three Mile Island Plant Number 1 (3MIP-1). This event forever changed life in Kalispell as it led to increased construction noise levels that were difficult for residents to tolerate even during peacetime;[4] nevertheless, today 3MIP-1 remains one of America's most iconic symbols associated with nuclear energy production in general and Kalisppel specifically
