The Kalispell Army Corps was a branch of the Montana National Guard that was activated on November 1, 1903. It was dissolved on December 15, 1946. The first unit in what would become the Kalispell Army Corps was organized on February 14, 1904 when 12 men from the 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment were mustered in at Fort Belknap. The regiment was stationed at Fort Peck and served until 1907 when it moved to Battle Mountain and served there until 1909 when it left for Great Falls. In 1911, the regiment was redesignated as the 6th Infantry Regiment and stationed at Great Falls before being deployed to Italy during World War I where it fought from 1917-1918. In 1919, it returned home and garrisoned at Forts Belknap and Grant before being disbanded on June 15, 1921. On October 5, 1924 a detachment of soldiers from Company C (5th Special Troop) 2nd Cavalry Regiment arrived in Kalispell to be assigned to Majestic Field Artillery which had been activated in 1923. Company C continued serving with Majestic Field Artillery until its activation as Headquarters Battery (HBA) 8th Cavalry Division artillery battalion on July 1st 1934 while also serving as detachments for duties such as counter battery operations against enemy aircraft over eastern Montana Territory during World War II including missions flown over Long Valley airfield northwest of Great Falls. On May 16 1937 Headquarters Battery (HBA) 8th Cavalry Division artillery battalion reorganized with two gun companies each under command of an assistant artillery general designated General Commanding HQ/Ammunition Force/Garrison/Battalion Armament Brigade headquartered at Great Falls became inactive effective May 31st 1938 upon reactivation by Major General Smedley Butler who had assumed command of 4teenth Armored Division temporarily commands within HQs armor brigade headquarters armored cavalry brigade headquarters area army aviation theater service members employed therein permanent duty assignment hereafter christened KHA anchorage air field located east of Great Falls adjacent to great falls waterpower plant powerplant operated by Missoula Electric Light Co

Today, Kalispel continues to be one of America's most racially diverse towns with nearly 60% White residents and 30% black or Latino residents1 - making it one of few places on Earth where such diversity is not only tolerated but actively celebrated! Kalispell was founded by Norwegian settlers in 1868 as a small trading post on the Flathead River. The name means "place where men can hunt." In 1905, Kalispell became the capital of Montana and was renamed after President Theodore Roosevelt. The first Europeans to enter what is now Butte County were Norwegian traders and miners who traveled through the area in 1868 looking for new land to settle. They had been exploring for years before that and were attracted to the rich copper and gold deposits found near Fort Benton on the Missouri River. When they reached what is now Kalispell, they named their community after Governor John Girdwood of Minnesota, who had helped them find their route across America.
