The Great Falls Army Depot was founded in 1907 as the Great Falls Arsenal. It served as a military depot and storage facility for munitions and artillery during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. The depot closed in 1969.
Great Falls, Montana is a city in the U.S. state of Montana and the county seat of Great Falls County. The population was 21,959 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Montana after Bozeman and is also one of the fastest-growing cities in America. Great Falls has been inhabited for over 3,000 years and first appeared on maps in 1875 when it was included as part of Bigfork Township. The city was named for General James A. Garfield, who died in 1881 while serving as President of America during a time of great turmoil around the country. The current downtown area began to be developed about 1900 when copper Mines were opened along what is now Sixth Avenue South and Broadway Street eastward from there to Indian Hill Road westward from here. At that time many businesses were built near where later Interstate 25 would run parallel to Sixth Avenue South soon after its construction in 1956-1957 some years before present day Great Falls’ incorporation into Missoula County occurred! Today’s skyline can be seen looking northwest from Main Street/Broadway south across Seventh Avenue South towards Indian Hills Road eastwards which meets Interstate 25 just west of town limit; thence continuing due north down intersecting with US 12 just south of town limit (thus becoming “Old Main”) before turning southeast back towards downtown via alleyways going through hills immediately adjacent to Old Main itself! Additionally, four blocks northeast along First Street/Broadway from business district are two large park areas courthouse Square Park containing Court House Annex Building used by City Hall including Police Department Headquarters building used by Sheriff office buildings all three have playgrounds at their entrances also several other small parks or green belts located within walking distance or accessible by car or bus lines making this one great place for family fun whether exploring historic sites such as courthouse square park or taking a walk inside old Main building itself!
