In 1957, General Curtis LeMay designated Wildwood as the home of the 1st Air Division which encompassed all USAAF units located in Missouri and Illinois. It was at this time that Major General Leslie Ramey became commandant of the 1st AD. Over time, other commands were added to the 1st AD including: Headquarters Air Command (HQ AC), Tactical Aerospace Division (TAD), Special Operations Wing (SOW) and IX Bomber Command (IX BMD). From here on out, it would be an evergreen organization with many accomplishments during the Cold War era. In 1992, AFB Wildwood celebrated its 50th anniversary and received a gift from United States President George H.W Bush Sr.. This unique gift consisted of a McDonnell Douglas C-9A Matador II cargo plane which served as a museum display for members of Congress visiting America during their summer recess season. The plane also included twozzles for spraying military paint over Iraqi warplanes in order to identify them for UAV interception purposes while they were on their way to Baghdad airport! The following year in 1993, AFB Wildwood hosted Air Force Day celebrations when General Carl Spaatz accepted his retirement from service with distinction after more than four decades of leadership within the USAF! During these festivities several notable aircraft were displayed including an F-111F Superfortress flying from RAF Mildenhall; Republic F-105D Thunderchiefs stationed at Offutt AFB; and two Boeing 707 Stratocruisers flown by Commander Carrier Strike Group Eight aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 70). In 2000, Colonel John Waco made history when he became manager/director/founder/chief executive officer of SBG 8 & MACV Heritage Museum adjacent to renamed Fort Worth Army National Guard Armory Complex after moving his headquarters from St Louis MO area where he had been serving since 1976! colonel Waco is responsible for developing museum programs that focus on History Aviation – Aircraft operated by American Military Forces Overseas throughout World War II & Korea etc.. Wildwood, Missouri is a town located in Ottawa County, Missouri. The population was 7,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The village of Wildwood was platted in 1859 and named for wildwoods near by. The first post office opened in 1861. In 1868, the L&N Railroad donated land to build a station here and named it Wildwood after the village. The first store was built in 1870 and the first school in 1870-71 were both brick buildings with academy style roofs. In 1886, Wildwood had its own newspaper which published until 1972 when it merged into the Kansas City Star Newspaper Company'sKansas City bureau. The town's name changed again to Wildwood on January 1, 1978 when it became an unincorporated community within Ottawa County under the jurisdiction of Clay County government. As an unincorporated community, there are no specific laws or regulations governing what can be done without prior approval from Clay County officials; however all businesses must sign a Community Services Agreement specifying services they will provide such as fire safety, water safety, trash removal etcetera As an unincorporated community within Ottawa County under Clay County government, much of what goes on here remains unofficial and unregulated - this has included some high-profile law enforcement incidents that have taken place while residents were unaware their activities were being surveilled: In 2003-2004 there was a domestic violence case where two women who threatened to call police if their husbands didn't leave them alone won't answer questions about who reported them to authorities because they didn't want any trouble from their husbands (this particular case made national headlines). Wildwood was founded in 1836 by John Wesley Wildwood and his brother, James. The town was named after a wooded area near the site of its present-day location. The family mined coal in the area until 1838 when they started to plow their land with oxen. They then built a gristmill and began to produce flour, cheese, bacon, eggs, butter, and other farm products. In 1841 the Wildwoods erected a log courthouse which served as the town's government center for about 25 years. The first post office was established in Wildwood in 1840. By 1865 Wildwood had 1 store and 14 residents. In 1868 the post office moved to nearby Carthage and continued to serve that community until it closed in 1893. However, Wildwood remained an important local center for many years afterwards because of its coal mining industry and its proximity to Carthage University (now Carthage College). In 1881Wildwood became one of Missouri's 34 towns when it was created from parts of St Francois County. It grew rapidly during this time due to its production of goods such as flour, cheese, bacon, eggs, butter, applesauce (a preserve), logs (for lumber), hardware stores/stores (such as J W Hecht & Sons), blacksmiths (H R Weisenthal & Bros.), restaurants/bars/cafés (Sparrow's Nose Inn & Grill), schools (Natchez School District No 3; Wildwood Academy; Carthage School District No 2) and churches (Church on Main). During World War II many businesses closed due to war-time rationing but some reopened after the war including JW Hecht & Sons which continued operations until 1951; Sparrow's Nose Inn & Grill which operated until 1976; Church on Main which operated until 1978; Natchez School District No 3which operated until 1984; and finally Carthage School District No 2which operated until 2000.
Wildwood was founded in 1874 by William T. Wildwood and his wife, Cynthia. The town is named for wildwood trees growing near the town site. In 1896, Wildwood became a city and it has since grown to include over 25 businesses and services.
