As the United States Air Force began deploying its forces in West Plains, Missouri in 1951, it was no small task to provide air support for the local communities. This was particularly true as the area was remote and difficult to reach by ground troops. Consequently, many of the air force's gift history is associated with helicopters and airplanes that were used to transport personnel and supplies. The first helicopter arrived in West Plains in 1951 and was piloted by Maj. Gen. James Crain. The unit served until 1957 when it was replaced by a Boeing 707 aircraft which did not arrive until 1958. The airplane that replaced the 707 had two engines instead of the three found on earlier models and could carry a greater amount of cargo. It also became possible for pilots to fly faster than their predecessors due to this new engine configuration. Other gifts that have been associated with the United States Air Force deployment in West Plains include bombers and missiles which have been used both offensively and defensively since they were introduced into service during World War II. Offensively, these weapons have been used to bomb enemy targets; while defensively, they have been used to protect locals from nearby insurgents or invaders who may attemptto cross into Missouri from Kansas or other states near West Plains. A number of helicopters gifted by the United States Air Force have also played an important role in regional relief efforts over the years including those provided during natural disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 or Ivan in 2008 which caused extensive damage across much of Russia
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gift items for its service members. This tradition began in 1947, when the USAF placed a small air traffic control tower at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. The gift was an addition to the base's collection ofStudent Air Mail Caches. In 1951, the USAF donated two P-51 Mustangs to the Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF). These aircraft became the first U.S. military aircraft to be operational in Japan since World War II. The JASDF flew these planes into combat against anime characters known as "Daiyuki". Since then, air force deployments have become more common and regular. In 2003, the USAF donated two E-2C Hawkeye airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft (EWCA) to EgyptianAir Forces. These planes were used by EgyptianAir Forces during Operation Desert Storm in 1990-1991 as part of their aerial warning system backbone. In 2006, two KA-27H Lark helicopters were sent to Jordan as gifts for King Abdullah II and Queen Rania al-'Amoudi; these helicopters are currently being used by Jordanian Armed Forces as search and rescue assets during natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods. In 2007, four F-16 Fighting Falcons were gifted to Oman by President George W Bush on his visit there; these aircraft are now operated by Oman's Royal Air Force as part of their aviation capabilities.
The Missouri Air National Guard's 243rd Airlift Wing deployed a gift history-themed airlift to West Plains, Mo., on Dec. 1 in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the United States-Mexico Border Patrol Treaty. The gift history airlift consisted of 203 military cargo containers filled with donated goods and supplies for local businesses and individuals in the area. The wing also donated 10 C-130H aircraft towing generators and other humanitarian resources to the area. "This event is an opportunity for our community to come together and help support those that are hurting," said Maj. Gen. Brent Knaus, 244th Airlift Wing commander. "We are proud to participate in this effort and I believe it will be a great asset to our community."
West Plains, Missouri is a small town in southern Missouri. The population was 7,854 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield-Highlands, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to what is now West Plains were farmers who arrived around 1820. They started to farm land that had been donated by General James Wilkinson. Many early residents of West Plains were related to local politicians and generals who lived in Springfield at the time. Some of the most famous people associated with West Plains include Senator Adlai Stevenson and Governor Jay Nixon. President Harry S Truman also grew up in nearby Columbia, Missouri. Most of the present day buildings in West Plains date back to the late 1800s when a small community began to form around a post office and grain elevator on Prairie Road (now Old US 190). The original town hall was built in 1892 and continues to be used today as an educational center.

Today, West Plains is known primarily for its historical attractions such as its Federal courthouse and schoolhouse from the 1840s-1850s, as well as its wide variety of antique stores and restaurants. It also serves as an important cultural center for the surrounding area with programs focusing on history, art, literature, music, and more.
West Plains was founded in 1837 by John H. White and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after the Plains of West Texas, which were the site of a previous settlement. White's parents had come overland from Mexico in 1825 and founded Wichita, Kansas. In 1837, they arrived at what is now West Plains and began to build a home there. They started a mill here that still operates today. In 1861, the Union Army invaded Missouri while Confederate General Robert Ewell was besieging St. Louis. Many people in West Plains sided with the Confederacy because they thought it would help protect their homes and families back home in Missouri. After the Battle of Gettysburg, many people in West Plains chose to stay behind and fight for the Union instead of return home to defend their state against Confederate attack. After the war ended, many people in West Plains decided to move away from Kansas City because it was becoming too dangerous to live there with so much violence going on everywhere else in America. Some moved eastward into Ohio or Illinois while others stayed behind and founded new towns such as Independence (now Springfield) or Emporia (now Topeka). Today, West Plains is an agricultural community located about 20 miles west of Kansas City on I-635/I-435 highway. It has a small shopping center with local services including grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores and several restaurants.
