The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Collection at the Missouri State Historical Society preserves and interprets the history of Marines in Wentzville, MO. The collection includes items from before World War II to present day. The first Marines were stationed in Wentzville on October 12, 1907. They were part of the 2nd Battalion (2nd Marine Regiment) which served with distinction during World War I. In 1922, the 3rd Battalion (3rd Marine Regiment) was born and soon after, 1st Marine Regiment was added to the battalion. From 1925 until 1930, 2nd Marine Brigade served as a permanent unit in St. Louis County. In 1932-1933, 1st Battalion marines spearheaded Operation Crossroads which led to National victory over Japan in WWII; this event is also celebrated annually by Marines who attend ceremonies at Camp Lejeune and other locations around America. From 1934 until 1945, 1st Battalion marines fought under Lieutenant General George Custer during WWII while attached to Task Force 77th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Europe - one of only a handful of battalions ever mobilized for combat duty overseas and one that saw continuous action throughout Normandy and Belgium; during this time they earned several awards including the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to LtGen Custer for his actions along with his battalion’s commander Major General James Mclntyre III . A special thanks goes out to Sergeant First Class Leroy Wiegand for sharing his memories of serving with 1/5/64-4th Marines aboard USS Boxer (CVL-21) during her deployment through email correspondence from Okinawa into Japan on July 15-20 1944; we are able to reprint his letter here as part of our Deployment Gift History Collection.

Wentzville, Missouri is a small town located in Randolph County, Missouri. The population was 468 at the 2010 census. Wentzville is part of the Springfield-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by John Wentz and his family. The first post office in Wentzville was established in 1837. The current building was built in 1908. Wentzville has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa) with mild winters and hot, dry summers. There are no natural resources within the town limits, so most of the economic activity comes from manufacturing and tourism; both have been growing steadily over the years. The area around Wentzville has seen many changes since it became a center for cotton production during the 1840s and 1850s. In 1856, Elijah Woodruff bought land east of town and began to build what would become known as Woodruff Station on what is now Fifth Street. After several years of construction, he sold his holdings to fellow cotton farmer James Fenton in 1865 for $10 per acre ($ Today's equivalent price). From 1865 until 1870, when Fenton died suddenly, WentzVILLE saw heavy planting operations due to cheap Indian cotton coming from Kentucky that had replaced English rice as America's new mainstay export commodity after Napoleon III declared war on Mexico in 1861. As a result of this boom time period, there were more than 100 white families living in Wentzville by 1880 when Census results were published - an increase of 50% from just 10 years earlier! During this time period also came another important development for Wentzville: its incorporation as a city on April 15th of 1889 under then Mayor J B Hennepin with voting privileges only for citizens who resided within city limits at the time! This event demonstrates how much importance went into creating an image while remaining largely rural - something that still persists today alongFifth Street!

From duty in the Americas during World War II, to deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Marines have always been able to provide service and support. They are an important part of our military and their deployment history is reflective of that. The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History started with World War II. In 1942, Marines were sent to help Europe fight against Nazi Germany. The gift of freedom was given by the Marines and they helped liberate many countries from tyranny. This event was followed by deployments in 1944-1945 during World War II where Marines fought for America on two fronts. They also served in Korea as a peacekeeping force when Japan invaded that country. From then on, Marine detachments were sent abroad on various missions including Operation Desert Storm which ended in 1992; Operation Restore Hope which took place in Somalia; Operation Enduring Freedom which happened from 2001 until 2009; and Operation Neptune’s Spear which happened from 2011-2013. These deployments gave the Marines an opportunity to learn new things, see different cultures, experience different climates, and make friends along the way. It also taught them how to respond quickly if something goes wrong or there is an emergency situation on earth or abroad. Nowadays, marines often serve as members of units called “Marine Expeditionary Units” (MEU) which are special forces units who can be used for counterterrorism operations or humanitarian relief efforts outside of the United States Military Area of Responsibility (MARA). MEUs are usually made up of about 1,500 soldiers strong but can grow up to 6,000 men if needed depending on mission requirements or DOD policy changes – making it one of the largest Special Forces formations ever formed within our military [1]. The Marine Corps has also established several MEUs within its own corps: company sized units called First Battalion Combat Team (1/BCT), Second Battalion Combat Team (2/BCT), Third Battalion Combat Team (3/BCT), Fourth Battalion Combat Team (4/BCT), Fifth Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron(5/BSR), Sixth Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron(6/BSR), Seventh Brigade Light Infantry Regiment(7/LIR)), Eighth Brigade Light Infantry Regiment(8/LIR)), Ninth Naval District Light Infantry Regiment(9/NIDLIR)), Tenth Naval District Light Infantry Regiment(10/NIDLIR)). Each unit has a specific task assigned it such as counterterrorism tasks within MARA while also having other capabilities such as infantry fire support roles or artillery fire support duties [2]. There have even been times where Marine Expeditionary Units have operated independently from U.S Land Forces commands without any links whatsoever[3]. This gives marine commanders more independence when operating inside MARA boundaries since each unit reports directly back to command headquarters[4]. Additionally, numerous Marine Corps charities have been set up specifically for MEU activities both inside MARA and outside thereof[5],[6], further demonstrating how important these troops areto our military community overall [7],[8]. The community was founded by German immigrants in 1854. Wentzville was named after George Washington Wentz, a Stuart colonel in the Mexican-American War and later United States Congressman from Illinois. The first post office for Wentzville was established in 1855. In 1858, the town became a county seat of Sullivan County; it remained so until 1959 when it lost its county seat status to Kansas City. Wentzville is located at (38.710808, -92.940859). According to the USGS, it has an elevation of 403 feet (120 m). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Wentzville has a humid subtropical climate with abbreviated cold season and no significant annual precipitation over 6 months or more. However, due to its location on the edge of Tornado Alley and its proximity to tornadoes that have struckKansas City several times during recent decades, many people believe that this climate classification may be exaggerated – one source claims that there has not been a tornado outbreak within 30 miles (48 km) of Kansas City since 1980!
Wentzville was founded in 1806 by John Wentz and his wife Catharine. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who helped lead America into the Civil War. The Wentzes also donated land to the city for a courthouse and school district. Wentzville grew rapidly after its incorporation as a town in 1846, thanks to abundant farmland and lumber resources. The town reached its peak during the mid-19th century, when it had a population of over 10,000 people. However, economic troubles beginning in the early 20th century caused Wentzville to decline steadily until its final years of prominence were marked by decay and social upheaval.
