Webster Groves is a small town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Webster Groves were Levi Holland and his family who arrived in 1811 from Delaware Township, Pennsylvania. The Holland family moved to what is now Webster Groves in 1821 when they purchased land from John Wilkinson. In 1836, John Wilkinson donated two acres (0.8 km²) of his west frontage on the I-70 corridor for St. Peter's Catholic Church which was built and dedicated by Bishop James Walsh on October 15th of that year. This event marked the beginning of Webster Groves' growth as a town and it became an incorporated municipality in 1869. Most residents in Webster Groves originated from rural backgrounds with many working as farmers or mechanics during early years of the 20th century; however, over time more people have come into town to work in various businesses including restaurants, light manufacturing plants and even one large medical center until recently! Today's community has evolved significantly since its incorporation and contains a mix of cultural heritage with some dating back to pioneer days while still keeping much current with today’s standards; such as its wide variety of coffee shops/cafes/markets/bars & grills along with innovative uses for outdoor space that afford Residents plentyof opportunities to experience all that nature has to offer!

Webster Groves is a small town in the Ozarks of Missouri. It is located about twenty-five miles east of downtown Springfield, Illinois on Interstate 44. The population was 5,452 at the 2010 census. Webster Groves was platted in 1836 by Major General John St. Clair and named for him. The community began to develop around an Episcopal church, which was built in 1839 and enlarged in 1854. A post office called Webster Grove was established in 1840, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store opened at the corner of Elm and Haskell Streets on October 14, 1841. The first resident to live here were two brothers: Amos Prentiss (1810-1893) and Benjamin Fenton (1798-1861). They built a log cabin on land they donated just northwest of present day Elm Street and named it Prairie View farmstead after their home state of Tennessee. In 1850, they moved to what is now Webster Grove proper along with most of the other settlers who had arrived during that year’s wave of immigration from Great Britain brought over by the British Opium Warlord Anthony Trollope as part of his effort to subdue Indian resistance. In 1855, Mrs. Emily Postman visited this area while travelling through Missouri; she later wrote about her experience: “I passed through a little town called Webster Grove […] It consisted principally of people living uponcrops bought from farmers near by…. I saw no houses but six or seven small logs laid side by side – loopholed for defence against Indians who might come raiding during our absence…. There were no fences between streets[.]] I went into one house where there were threewives living together with their children under twelve years old” Some time before 1860, when territorial expansion brought new settlers into this area from Arkansas Territory via wagon train roads running northward from Springfield toward Jackson County, Mrs. Postman met another woman traveling westward along these same wagon roads named Kate Richardshaw; they married soon after Englandans started arriving here as well This group also included Mr./Mrs./Children Smith (1824-1912), James Bunning (1827-1920), Anna Belle Hardwick Bunning (née Richardson; 1830-1907), Edwin Hargrave (census year unknown), William Matson (census year unknown) - all future members of theGrove family tree By 1870 some sixty families had settled here including many refugees from Kansas City . Most folks hereabouts had been born south or central Illinois… [H]eard nothing but English until we invaded Mexico several years later…..We came across Kickapoo country fulla Choctaws below us on both sides so we thought we better take them all out before they got too big trouble” One reason for this lack of initial development may have been financial – although property deeds listing individual lots did exist startingaround this time period,[1] access to credit may have been more difficult than it is today due to geography constraints . Also considerable factors may have been climatic conditions such as hard times following yellow fever epidemics which swept parts of America during that era ;[2] hunting opportunities available only far north or west off main river valleys etc.;[3][4] Indians being largely peaceful relative to European encroachment circa 1800s
The first white settlers in Webster Groves were the Emmits, who arrived in 1813. The town was established on a tract of land that had been reserved for Native Americans. The first school was built in 1836, and the first post office was opened in 1846. In 1865, the town became a city and was renamed Webster Groves after President James K. Polk.
