Webster Groves is a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,640 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. Webster Groves was platted in 1853. The community was named for Jethro Webster, a judge in Clay County and an early settler. The Webster family lived in the town until 1906 when they moved to Ocala, Florida. father Jethro died there on July 3, 1906 and mother Martha died on October 6th of that year. One brother also died young; he was only 21 when his parents passed away. In 1907 the grocery store and post office were built and opened by Wm Hays & Son which had been established in 1868 as a general store and stage coach stop on the main road from Springfield to Hannibal. In 1912 the first Webster High School opened for students grades 9-12 after being founded by Mrs. John Fenton (1858-1927). Mrs. Fenton donated land for the school which extended across what is now Wabash Avenue between Main Street and West Sixth Street NE (now US Highway 190). She also made donations to other educational institutions including Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (now Sts Martin's Catholic Church) on West Seventh Street NE which became known as "Queen of All Churches" due to her sponsorship of that institution; it housed girls from elementary through high school until its conversion into a coeducational college in 1963 with Mrs. Fenton's gift becoming separate property within Sts Martin's Parish Continuing School District No 1 located just east of downtown Springfield among other gifts contributed over many years culminating with their incorporation into that parish by act of law on November 3rd 1959 under Revd Dr James Mapes with Reverend Dr Julius Kiser serving as Superintendent from 1966 until his death on December 2nd 1984 having served since January 1st 1949 following Mr Mapes' retirement effective February 17th 1946 Webster Groves experienced significant growth during World War II due to its strategic location as a major truck stop servicing military personnel stationed throughout Missouri including nearby Northaven Field near Macomb City while also providing routine needs such as housing for troops who would remain deployed or temporarily living off site during wartime encampments like those at Camp Forrest near present day Lebanon, Illinois When Interstate 55 Was Built Nearby In The Early 1960s Many Of The Truck Stop Buildings Were Replaced By New structures Which Made For An Unhappy View From My Garage frontsing I-55 As I Sat Watching Every Dayespecially When It RainedAs You Can See On Some Of These Photos Over Time Most Of The BuildingsLostTheir Roof rack And Some Had To Be RemovedAll New Structures Are Now Named After Military Figures Or Persons Whom They Failed To NameAt This Point I FeelLike Webster Groves Is A SymbolOfHow screwed We All WereByThose Who Made THAT Possible

In 1902, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch published an article about a group of people who were moving from Illinois to start a new town called Webster Groves. It wasn't until 1948 that the city voted to create a section for the local black community within its boundaries. This section was called "Webster Groves City".
