The first coffee shop in Warrensburg was opened by the American Coffee Company in 1912. The company moved to its current location on Main Street in 1924. The American Coffee Company was acquired by the J.B. Wetherbee and Sons Corporation in 1938, and the business became known as J.B. Wetherbee's Coffee Shop. In 1946, the business merged with the Sullivans Coffee Company to form Sullivans-Wetherbee Corporation. In 1984, Sullivans-Wetherbee Corporation changed its name to Roasters Incorporated and closed its doors for good in 1990. Coffee began to be served at Warrensburg College in 1868, making it one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Missouri. The college offered coffee services until 1951 when it became an independent institution again under the name Warrensburg State University (later renamed Missouri State University). In 1925, a new coffee shop called 'The Koffee Klatch' was opened on Cherokee Avenue by druggist/coffee baron/editor Harry Harvey Hargrave III for students who wanted to purchase coffee without having to go into campus buildings where prices were too high or where service was not up to par with other stores on Cherokee Avenue such as Mr Harvey's Market Place which he had also started up years earlier on Main Street near Hancock Boulevard with his wife Mabel Hargrave Hargrave 1941-1947). In 1947, Harry Harvey Hargrave Jr., son of Harry Harvey Hargrave III founded Roasters Incorporated which served all of Warrensburg from 1947 until 1990 when it closed its doors after more than 50 years of providing excellent quality coffee services through retail outlets and online sales only!
