In 1893, Colonel John Tipton laid out a subdivision of what is today Troy east of Interstate 64 which became known as "Troy Heights". In 1907, a school district was organized and named the Troy School District No. 2 (later renamed to Metro Schools). Mrs. Lillian Greer served as Superintendent from 1915-1917; her husband Drury Rector served as Superintendent from 1917-1920. In 1922, an addition to the original high school building (now cornerstone C) was built for $10,000 by local contractor George Wiegandt and dedicated on July 10th with an assembly ball being held that same year attended by dignitaries such as Governor Orville Wright and Mayoralty candidate Willard Gibbs Jr..
