Troy, Missouri is a town located in the Ozarks of eastern Missouri. The population was 5,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. Troy was founded by fur trappers in 1836 and named after General James H. Troy who fought in the Mexican-American War. The first store in Troy was opened by Capt. John Aiken in 1841. In 1865, Captain Aiken's son, Adam Aiken, built and supervised the erection of what is now known as the old courthouse which stands on Main Street between Second and Third Streets. The town became a city on November 3, 1907 when it amalgamated with nearby Springfield. The current mayor is Democrat Laura Ebke since November 3rd 2017

Troy is a small town in Jefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Troy was established in 1837 and named for General John A. Troy, a Confederate general during the American Civil War. The community was platted in 1837 by James Purdy and others under the name of "Shopton." In 1850, it was renamed "Troy," after General John A. Troy who served as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate army during the American Civil War. The post office at Troy was opened on November 3, 1850, and remained open until it closed on December 15, 1865. In 1892-1893, an experimental steam engine operated by Union Steam Navigation Company (later known as Wichita Western Railway) located near downtown Troy caused extensive damage to several businesses along Main Street and also created a large fire that destroyed several buildings including one store which stood for more than 100 years before being replaced by a new building with updated features in 2006-2007 When white supremacists marched through town on August 12th 1990 to protest what they saw as black abandonment of their community following integration into society elsewhere in metro KC., many people took to the streets carrying signs reading "No KKK or neo-Nazis here". This led to some tension between those who supported integration and those who did not but ultimately no violence occurred; instead there seemed to be an overall sense of common understanding and respect for each other's cultures despite differences
Troy was founded in 1836 by Nicholas Troy and his brother, Elijah. The town rapidly grew, becoming one of the most important settlements in the area. In 1854, the first school was built in Troy. In 1865, the first courthouse was erected in Troy. The town grew rapidly again during the late 19th century and early 20th century, thanks to its rich agricultural history and its location near major railroads.
