The current post office building was built in 1915 and is located on West Hickory Road in Town And Country. The first store in Town And Country was a grocery store known as "Dollar Store". In 1907, the first hotel opened in Town AndCountry and became known as the "Hilton". On July 4th of each year since 1909, fireworks are set off near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Hickory Road to celebrate Independence Day in TownAndCountry. On October 6th of each year since 1912, a parade is held downtown to honor veterans from nearby towns who have served in World War I or World War II.

Town and Country, Missouri is a small town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was named for John Towne who settled there in 1837. The first post office was established in 1839. The townsite was laid out by George Prentice and named after his farm which he purchased from Nicholas Payne in 1836. However, it wasn't until 1862 that the name "Towne" became permanent when Elijah Boardman purchased the land from Prentice. Towne had several stores and a hotel before it seceded from Webster County to form Raytown Township in 1865. In 1907, Towne voters passed a resolution to rename the town "Johnstown," but this proposal never made it to signature because Jay Cooke vetoed it.[1] In 1912-1913, Towne voted to join the newly formed city of Kansas City as its second largest municipality by population after Topeka. On July 1, 1916,[2] however, due to various factors including World War I efforts to attract businesses away fromKansas City and an economic slump that began around 1920,[3][4][5] Towne voted not to join KCMO with a total population of just over 3,000 residents;[6] instead it annexed portions of nearby Eldorado Township (now located inside Kansas City proper) on February 5th 1921 with a total population of 2,972 residents;[7][8][9][10][11] though some sources claim that only 1/3rd or less of this number actually lived within the boundaries of Towne itself;[12][13], nevertheless this annexation created one-third of KCMO's current boundaries![14][15][/table].
