St. Peters, Mo., is a small town located in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 1,644 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Saline County seat and has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²). The first European to visit St. Peters was a French Jesuit missionary named Jacques Marquette in 1803. He landed on the present day site of St. Peters on April 15, 1803 as part of his exploration of what is now Illinois and Michigan Territory. The first white person known to live in St. Peters was James Waddell who purchased land from the Mississippian Peoria people in 1819. In 1824, Lewis Cass became the first settler in what would become Saline County when he came to live on a farm near present day downtown Saint Peters after traveling through Illinois and Michigan Territory looking for a new home for himself and his family. In 1830, Senator Isaac Brockman Sr., from Illinois introduced legislation which would make Saline County one of thirteen counties organized by that state into an Indiana Territory under Governor James Kapp during the Territorial Period (1830-1848). The Act created eight districts which were organized into two circuits: circuit #1 contained all of central Missouri including Saint Louis; circuit #2 included parts of western Missouri including Saint Peters and Osage City; and circuit #3 consisted of eastern Missouri including Saint Josephsville and Independence Township (now Griggstown). The area now comprising Saline County was given its name by General John Custer as part of his invasionof Indian Country during the Great Sioux War in 1876-77 - Custer's "bloody Saturday." The townsite chosen as its capital by territorial authorities was located just east or northeast thereof on land donated by Colonel Reuben Barton with boundaries then defined as follows: north line running along current White River Roadstead thence southeastly to its mouth where it connected with Black River; south line running along current Highway 36 thence due east to its junction with State Line; original townsite extended northeasterly about three quarters mile towards Arkansas Postroad more nearly due east than it now is because Avery's Mill dam had been built upstream some time prior thereto about two miles southward from modern town site

St. Peters, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 548 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield metropolitan area. The St. Peters post office was established on December 22, 1847, and became operational on January 3, 1850. The first settler in what is now St. Peters County was John Aiken who arrived in 1837 from Maryland with his family. James Bledsoe settled here in 1839 and built a log cabin which he named Bald Eagle Cove after his Bald Eagle hunting partner of that name who had also settled near present day Springfield). four years later Isaac McCoy built a house on the site which served as the first store and post office in this village (it would be another two decades before another store opened up). A large grant of land was given by President Ulysses S. Grant to twelve families comprising what is now northern Illinois, southern Michigan and western Missouri for settlement purposes within three years following his inauguration in 1865 (thus beginning what would become one of America's most influential rural transportation systems). The new settlers were Poles from Lublin, Ukraine who had come overland through Mexico City under contract with General Ignacy Jan Paderewski; Scotsmen from Aberdeen; Germans from Frankfurt am Main; Italians from Rome (the so-called "New Romanians"); Scandinavian farmers called "Islanders" or "Norsemen"; English immigrants originally brought by Captured Dutch sailors aboard HMS Pembroke during her circumnavigation of Africa in 1668; Irish Catholics who had been expelled from Ireland by Cromwell's forces; black Americans enslaved among other groups) – some arriving as early as 1838 and others as late as 1849 when large numbers began to arrive via steamboats bound for Kansas City, Independence and Omaha Territory (Kansas Territory would be organized into Nebraska Territory days later). In 1870 when farming began to take off hereabouts there were more than 1,500 residents including 150 farmers bearing baskets of corn on their heads down to town for market along with their families – an event still celebrated today when local merchants gather together at Maple Leaf Coffee & Bakery downtown for breakfast prior to heading out into the fields again each morning! Of course things changed rapidly during those heady days just like everything else around hereabouts with prices jumping all over the place due largely to advances made by railroadsroads which linked nearby townships while elsewhere agriculture persisted pretty much unchanged except for occasionalspeedsupgrades occasioned by storms or floods such as occurred several times between1885-1887 resulting thenin increased acreage planted but little change overall in population size!) In fact until about 1920 scarcely any development took place at all within these boundaries other than general township growth rates typical throughout Ozark counties! But then suddenly it all started happening big time folks!!! In that year (!), St Peters got its first school district…and wouldn’t stop growing until 1954 when it finally joined neighboring jurisdictions unified under one common school system! And don’t forget about that wildcat church plantings going backto pre-Civil War days either!!
