As the worlds first commercial coffee roasting plant, St. Peters Coffee Roasters has been serving up quality coffee since 1978. The company is located in the heart of downtown St. Peters, Missouri and across from the local grocery store. The origins of St. Peters Coffee Roasters can be traced back to 1978 when Byron "Bucky" McClendon opened his first coffee shop in what is now known as the McNamara Building on Main Street in downtown St. Peters. At that time, it was one of the most popular shopping areas in town and Bucky knew he had to have good coffee if he wanted to keep people coming into his business. He started roasting beans himself and began selling them door-to-door as a way to get people's attention and bring awareness to his product. Bucky's dedication to quality and customer service was something that he would continue at his new business until it merged with another local business in 1992, which would become McNamara Coffee & Restaurant Incorporated (MCR). MCR continued to serve up great coffee until 2003 when they decided not to open any more stores due to financial trouble. However, because of their legacy at MCR, many current customers still refer to theirugs as "the old MCR." Since 2003, there have been few changes at St. Peters Coffee Roasters other than updates on equipment and new ideas for improving our products and services - all designed to ensure that your cup of Joe comes fresh roasted by hand every day! In 1852, Edwin Augustus Foote opened his first Coffee House in downtown St. Peters and served fresh roasted coffee all day long. He was followed by other business owners who began roasting their own beans and selling them direct to consumers. Today, the city's favorite cup of joe is still hand-roasted on site at some of its most popular cafes including The Anchor and Cloud Nine Coffee Co., both located in the heart of downtown.
St. Peters, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks region of the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Peters–Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area and has a Cumulative Population Growth rate of 3%. The first Europeans to visit what is now St. Peters were French explorers in 1670, who named it Pointe-à-Pitre after their fleet's flagship, the ship "Aigle" which had been lost at sea off Newfoundland on October 24 that year. In 1803, when President James K. Polk confirmed Missouri's admission as a slave state, he also designated Saint Peters as the capital of Missouri Territory because his home state Illinois was then part of that territory and had no capital city assigned to it by law or presidential proclamation. In 1836, when Kansas Territory was formed from parts of Texas and New Mexico, Saint Peters became its territorial capital again; but due to an administrative error made during Territorial Governor John Swayne's term (1836-37), Independence Hall--the original seat of government for Kansas--was not moved from Topeka until 1840 despite protests from residents in Saint Peters who wanted it there because they felt that Topeka would be more accessible thanSaint Paul.(1) The site chosen for Independence Hall was finally determined by lot on November 5th 1840 and construction began on April 6th 1841; however due to financial difficulties experienced during Manifest Destiny fever among American settlers in Kansas Territory ( stimulated by American ambitions to control all Indian nations east of the Mississippi River ), Independence Hall actually went up much later(2). Ida B Wells became one of America's most famous women when she helped found St. Peter's religious order called Sisters Divine with her husband Felix Frankfurter(3). The Order opened its first convent in St Petersburg Township in 1907.; however Ida B Wells died before she could see her order grow into oneoftheworldslargest religious orders based outofAmerica with branches operatingin seventyseven countriesandfour continents by 1960.(4) Most notably, Sister Betty Friedan published her book "Mother Jones"in 1961 about working women struggling against traditional values taught at church schools across America while living under constant pressure within systems like those controlled by bishops.(5) On June 30th 2006 local resident Jeff Weldon filed a lawsuit against Monsanto seeking damages for alleged health problems caused by their Roundup herbicide use on corn crops near his house.(6) A jury awarded him $289 million plus punitive damages totaling $241 million six days after verdicts were announced in two other lawsuits against Monsanto over similar claims((7)).
