The Coast Guard was established in 1933 as the Harbor Security Service of St. Peters, Missouri. The service is now headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The coast guard's mission is to protect the nation's coastline and maritime interests by conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and providing law enforcement services. The service also provides education and training for the public on ocean safety and maritime matters. The first Coast Guard station in St. Peters was built on Third Street near modern day State Avenue in 1933. It served as a stop for shipping traffic entering or leaving the city center. In 1935, a second Coast Guard station was built on First Street south of Main Street within walking distance of town hall. This station acted as a backup to both the original Station at Third Street and also the new Station on First Street South which had been constructed just north of downtown St Peters during 1934-35. In 1939, two more stations were added to the city limits - one on Second Avenue west of Main Street and another at Fifth Boulevard east of Frontage Road near today's Barnes Gaslight Theatre (now known as White Sands Casino). These two stations formed an 'interlocking triangle' with each other which became known as 'the triplex'. Our current headquarters building opened in 1951 across from IMAX Theater on Broadway which housed both our main Headquarters Building (originally called Gateway) and our Commandant's Office until it was replaced by our current facility in 1994 after being damaged by fire while under construction inside Gateway (see photo below). Since its inception, our Coast Guard has grown significantly with over 30 departmental branches operating within our jurisdiction including: Search & Rescue; Boating; Aviation; Fisheries; Marine Investigations; Environmental Enforcement - formerly Weather Protection - formerly Streets & Roads Operations; Homeland Security/ Customs & Border Protection - formerly United States Marshals Service - previously Federal Bureau of Investigation . Each branch has their own command structure but all work together towards common goals including protecting coastal communities from shipwrecks, terrorism, subsidence and beach erosion along America's coasts! Each year we host various events such as parades through downtown St Peters featuring local businesses who donate goods or services to support our cause such as candy bars or T-shirts that go back into circulation for Christmas! The St. Peters Coast Guard gift history can be traced back to 1920 when the Coast Guard's predecessor organization, the Missouri State Patrol, donated a small steamer, the SS Pickering, to be used as a coast guard station on the riverfront in downtown St. Peters. The first Coast Guard detachment stationed at this location was constituted in 1924. In 1957, the Coast Guard Station St. Peters was moved to its present location on Second Street between Highland and Elm Streets. In 1979, the station became an auxiliary unit of the Sheriff's Department and remains so today. Today, with over 350 personnel assigned to our station, it plays a critical role in protect maritime traffic and coastal communities from crime and terrorism during both day and night hours.

In 1916, the Coast Guard was established as an independent branch of the US military. The first coast guard gift was a watch to Lieutenant James W. Graves in 1916. The Coast Guard has provided many unique gifts throughout its history, including a telephone system to allow officers on duty to call for help during emergencies, helicopters, icebreakers, and surveillance equipment. Today, the Coast Guard employs over 9,000 people and provides essential services such as search and rescue missions and coastal protection.

St. Peters, Missouri is a small town on the edge of the Ozarks in northwest Kansas. It was founded by German immigrants in 1847 and named after Saint Peter, the apostle who led Jesus Christ's crucifixion. In 1861, when Kansas became a United States state, St. Peters became part of that state and it retains its original name today. The town was first settled on land that was part of the Shawnee Nation. The first white settlers arrived in 1847 and began trading goods with the Shawnee for food, horses and other livestock. By 1860, there were over 100 people living in St. Peters when it became a government seat within Kansas Territory under the jurisdiction of Wichita County. In 1861, when Kansas Territory gained independence from Mexico, St. Peters reverted to Shawnee Indian Country under ownership of individual Shawnee chiefs as part of their treaty agreement with US forces during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The war interrupted trade between US factions and opened up new opportunities for both sides to expand their marketshare in central Missouri through plundering Native villages along the way: by 1865, Washington County had totaled more than $1 million worth of goods taken from various Native villages during wartime raids alone! Today, much like Wichita County before it—a rural agricultural county with rolling hills covering around 60% of its area—St. Peters remains largely unaffected by modern day technology or industry save for one small hospital which provides care to patients from all over northwest Kansas as well as parts of Iowa and Illinois! With an estimated population of just over 6500 residents as of 2010 census data (down from almost 11000 five years earlier), St. Peters' unique history still has plenty to offer visitors interested in learning more about its fascinating cultural heritage!
