Sedalia, Missouri is a small town in the south central United States. It was founded in 1836 by Judge John Sedgwick and his family. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s and into the 20th century due to its cotton production and its location on the Mississippi River. During World War I, Sedalia produced munitions for the war effort. In 1922, their mill closed down but they continued to produce coffee until it shut down again in 1984. Today, Sedalia's only remaining business is their coffee shop which has been open since 1978. Small batch coffee history in Sedalia begins with Judge John Sedgwick's founding of Sedalia in 1836. He arrived from Kentucky with his family and set out to found a new village on the Mississippi River adjacent to what would become Jackson, Michigan. At first, he only produced agricultural products such as cornmeal and flour for his own household use; however, he quickly realized that this lifestyle was not sustainable long term and decided to move onto more profitable endeavors. In 1870, he married Sarah Hunt (1851-1925) and together they began producing whiskey from a distillery they had constructed near their home. The following year, they sold their whiskey business to another gentleman named Samuel Hodge (1849-1927). Around this time too, Judge John started becoming involved with politics through his position as an Alderman for Jackson City Councilmember Sr.. Upon retiring from office at age 70 in 1906, he donated land adjacent to his home so that an industrial park could be built there specifically for manufacturing cottonseed oil products such as gasoline engines and pianos etc.. This company became known as 'Hodge & Sedgwick Oil'. However despite all of these endeavors successively starting up new businesses throughout various phases over several decades - each one lasting less than two years - all ultimately failed due largely to economic conditions at that time/place etc.. After purchasing some additional property next door within Jackson City Limits (the current day city limits), Judge John established himself permanently within Jackson by establishing his own grocery store called 'The Old Courthouse'. Here he continued producing groceries AND printing newspapers until 1943 when both stores were burned down along with much of downtownJackson because of WWII bombing raids!Following Mayor Worthy’s efforts towards restaurateur development withinJacksonCity Limits after WWII - including turning an abandoned warehouse into a restaurant called Painted Winds renamed “Majestic” – The Old Courthouse reopened under new management as 'The Edge'. Over ensuing years ownership changed hands numerous times before finally being bought out by Starbuck Coffee Co., Incorporated in 1993! Finally upon purchase by Starbucks Corporation – one of America’s largest cupcake retailers – almost 30 years later (!), The Edge closed its doors once again completely resulting in local legend having it remain unused for 3 consecutive days until finally being renovated using state funds !! Nowadays visitors are welcome inside Historic The Edge every day starting at 9am !
