The Sedalia National Guard was organized on July 4, 1907. The unit was originally called the "Kansas City Reserve" and served in that city from 1907 to 1912. On November 1, 1912, the Sedalia National Guard became an all-volunteer force and its name was changed to the "Sedalia National Guard". On September 11, 1917, the Sedalia National Guard participated in World War I as part of the United States Army. After the war ended, the Sedalia National Guard remained active until 1925. From 1925 to 1957, it was inactive due to budget cuts. However, on October 5th of that year it recommenced full-time operations with a new brigade structure In 1958, due to budgetary constraints and changing technology within the military, the Sedalia National Guard disbanded effective October 5th of that year. It has not been reactivated since then. However, because of its history and contribution to American culture through service during World War I and World War II both as an all-volunteer force and later as a charter member of both NATO and CINC Southwest Missouri Regional Command (SWMR), there is still some interest in reestablishing or restoring this organization for homeland defense purposes or for other patriotic reasons including education opportunities for children who may be interested in joining or serving in such an agency.

Sedalia, MO is a city in Sedalia County, Missouri, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Sedalia is located on the Arkansas River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Climate Classification: Cfa). Sedalia was founded in 1837 as a small town on the east bank of the Arkansas River by Nathaniel and Ebenezer Richardson. They named it after General James Mays's home state of Virginia and their hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. The Richardsons were pioneers in what became Sedalia County; they first settled there in 1837. In 1860, when Missouri passed its statehood referendum, Sedalia voted to become a county seat. In 1865, when Kansas City was created as an independent city within Missouri, Sedalia voted to become its first mayor and also became its first police department. The city annexed parts of neighboring towns in 1907 until it had a total population of 30 residents. By 1920, the population had reached 100 residents and by 1930 it had Reached 200 residents In 1951, when Wichita Falls annexation occurred within Sedalia limits (the merger resulted in Wichita Falls becoming an independent city), Mayor Frank Wieseler requested that all businesses within Sedalian limits close their doors because he felt that annexing Wichita Falls would have an negative impact on his efforts to keep downtown sedated during night rush hours In response to this request from Mayor Wieseler - one which still exists today - many local businesses chose not to close up shop during rush hour instead choosing to open up late into the night for customers who needed them

It was not until September 8, 1907 that the National Guard received its current name-the Army National Guard-and it began duty nationwide. During World War I, the National Guard played a critical role in the war effort. In addition to providing soldiers with arms and ammunition, they also fought alongside various units in battle. After the war ended, many military members decided to stay in service and become members of the National Guard. This led to an increase in membership throughout 1917-1918 when combat troops returned from Europe. However, during World War II there was a significant decrease in membership due to wartime mobilization laws that limited how many men could be called up for military service at any one time. This prohibition also caused some reservists who had served before 1939 to rejoin the regular army rather than serve through 1942 as part of the National Guard. Despite this decrease in numbers, however, many veterans of World War II decided to join the NGF after their discharge from active duty or upon reuniting with family members who were already member stateside. At that time, Sedalia had a population of about 25 people and consisted mostly of farmers and their families. The city's growth came due to its location within easy reach of major roads and railroads, as well as its position as the center of commerce for eastern Butler County. By 1915, however, Sedalia's population had grown to more than 150 people and had become one of the most important cities in western Butler County. Sedalia has experienced many significant changes over its history. One such change occurred during World War II when it became one of several U.S.-occupied cities throughout Europe due to its strategic location between Nazi Germany and Warsaw (then partof Poland). After liberation by Allied Forces in 1945, Sedalia quickly regained its former status as an important city within western Butler County. In recent years, however, some residents have suggested that sedalians should consider moving away from their historic town due to various factors - including increasing crime rates and concerns about pollution caused by manufacturing industries located nearby.
