Sedalia is a town in Sedalia County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the southern edge of the county and lies adjacent to Kansas City on the border of Missouri and Arkansas. It is considered part of the KC metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Sedalia were families from Kentucky who arrived in 1836. They founded a trading post near present-day Sedalia and named it "New Salem". In 1864, James Witherspoon became territorial governor of Kansas Territory and ordered all towns east of the Arkansas River to be renamed for him – Sedalia being one such town. This caused some confusion as there were no other towns within Kansas Territory with that name, so New Salem was continued to be used as Sedalia's primary name until 1867 when it was changed back to Salem due to trademark issues with Witherspoon's old business partner Elijah Hicks (the founder of Independence Brewing Company). In 1870, Nathaniel Lovett came across land hereabouts and erected a log cabin which served as his home until he died in 1909. He had purchased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) northwest of Sedalia from William Hickey for $5 per acre ($100 today). The following year he built another Log Cabin cabin on this same property which still stands today and is known as "Lovett House". The first school taught inside a house here was called "Hickory Hill School" which opened in 1872. A new school building was erected in 1903 by Mrs. JF Snively after her husband died; it remains standing today as part of Town Hall Park. In 1907 an addition was added to Town Hall Park which housed a grocery store before being closed down by fire several years later; it still stands today next to the library building. In 1910 Drs EJ White and FP Nachtigall founded Anheuser-Busch Brewery here while living in St Louis; they began brewing beer commercially here soon afterward and eventually moved their brewery westward into Topeka where it continued operations until 1978 when it merged with Schlitz Brewing Company (now Budweiser) under then CEO Busch himself becoming one corporate entity with many subsidiaries worldwide! Prior to that merger beer sales were handled outsourceably through various channels including First National Bank & Trust Company’s bottling arm Samuel Adams Bottling Co., Incorporated . In recent years Anheuser-Busch has again begun marketing its beers outside North America through international distributorships .
