The Sedalia, Missouri Army National Guard's history dates back to 1867. The unit was formed from a merger of three separate units: the 2nd Missouri Infantry Regiment (Cavalry), the 3rd Missouri Infantry Regiment (Infantry), and the 1st Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment (7th Cavalry). The first soldiers of the army National Guard were recruited in 1867 from various counties in central Missouri. This year saw also the organization of the 1st Brigade, Mechanized Division, which consisted of two infantry brigades and a cavalry brigade. In 1871, with World War I looming on the horizon, General Joseph E. Johnston called for an all-volunteer army to be mobilized in order to bolster American defenses against Germany. In response, members of the Sedalia Citizen Militia organized into companies and raised their own regiment under command of Major General John T. Pemberton. On July 15th, 1915, after more than a decade and a half service as part of America's military establishment, Sedalia's Army National Guard was reactivated at Camp Chase Field near West Springfield by President Woodrow Wilson as part of his New Deal program. With World War II looming large on our horizon it seemed only natural that we would see similar mobilization efforts take place throughout our country; however this time around there was one key difference-the National Guard would be used for general purposes rather than specifically flying fighter planes or helping fight in battle like our regular military did. With that said though; Sedalia has been involved in many wartime deployments throughout its history including serving in Operation Market Garden in 1945 and again during Operation Desert Storm in 1991-1992. Although not always glamorous or outright dangerous deployments like some others have been- every deployment has left behind lasting memories for those who have experienced it such as my friends Myles & Curt who served tours during both Gulf Wars combined with their kids Brooke & Samad - all six of whom are now living here locally and currently serve active duty with their respective units stationed elsewhere! There is nothing quite like being a part of something big happening overseas while your family lies back home waiting for you to come home safe & sound...good times indeed!

Sedalia, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 7,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1837 as a Methodist settlement by General James H Knotts and his family. Sedalia was named for Colonel Sedgwick's daughter, Sarah (Sedgwick) Todd. The first post office opened in 1839 and the first store opened in 1840. The first school opened in 1843 and the first church in1845. In 1860, a sawmill was built on what is now Sedalia's main street and soon became one of the most important economic engines of the community. By 1870, there were five stores, two banks, three churches, several schools and a hospital all functioning together as one integrated system that served Sedalia, surrounding counties and parts of central Missouri. In 1930-1931 local businesses organized to form "The Businessmen's Association" which later became known as "The Chamber of Commerce." In 1964-1965 Area VFWpost #2712 donated land to be used for municipal park purposes which later became Sedalia Park. In 1992-1993 addition to these park improvements began with construction of new streetscape around existing city blocks including: Main Street from US 27 east to IH 80W; Second Street from US 27 east to IH 80W; Sheridan Avenue from US 27 south to Vine Street; Hickory Road from IH 80W north to Marengo road also included within this project; finally North Street between Vine Street and Hickory Road extending eastward into old city block formed today’s downtown sedalia mix bowl boundaries with additional east/west streetscapes forming exterior peripheral neighborhoods called “Northside” or “Southside” depending on current map location within city limits while inner core neighborhoods continue unchanged since original developmentvenants were entered into back when City limits consisted only of original lots bounded by Vine St., Hickory Rd., Marengo Rd., Naylor Ave., Duncan Rd., Perry Rd./Old Mill Dr.; Park Way existed prior thereto only being used for parkinglot access with no industrial uses allowed within Municipal Limits ever having occurred therein other than single private home alterations occurring during development phases only! It should be noted that not all residents are descendants of those who originally settled here – many people who call Sedalia home came through other townships or rural areas along Interstate 40 corridor such as Jeromesville or New Madrid before reachingsedalia via Ford County route 40 about 54 miles west longitude on 1st day Of November 1890 arrival & throughout their lives paid taxes & contributed militarily service willingly participating actively both World Wars II thru our own state militia units like Eagle Scouts thru National Guard units West Side United States Veterans Cemetery closed Memorial Day Weekend 2006

Sedalia is a small town in Sedalia County, Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1836 and named for Hiram Sedgwick. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. In 1938, the Post Office moved to its current location on Main Street in the heart of town. The old post office building still stands as a commercial property today. The town's first settler was Hiram Sedgwick. He donated land to the town and built a house there in 1836-37. The first store opened in 1838 and the first school in 1840. The first doctor arrived in 1840 and set up his practice here until his death in 1865. A courthouse was built here in 1846-47, but it burned down two years later. A new courthouse was erected on Neely Street east of downtown Sedalia between 1860 and 1862 by David Sibley Smith (1809-1868). This courthouse still stands today and is used as a library or museum facility. Sedalia experienced several expansions during its early years: a sawmill was established here in 1843; an elevator company became active here; an agricultural fairs were held regularly from about 1850 onward; construction began on what would eventually be known as the "Old Town" section of town around 1870; and other businesses followed suit over time including hotels, stores, churches, schools, etcetera All these businesses are now long gone but their memories linger with residents of Sedalia dear to their hearts!
