The Missouri Army National Guard was originally organized in 1862 as the First Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The regiment, which was composed of men from Upper and Lower Missouri, fought in the American Civil War as a part of the Union army. After the war, the regiment was disbanded and its members were absorbed into other regiments. In 1920, however, it re-emerged as the 1st Battalion, 9th Armored Cavalry Regiment. The battalion served in World War II as part of the United States Armed Forces European Theater and later became part of Army Reserve Command. In 1957, it reformed as a unit within the Missouri Army National Guard and today is one of the state's main military formations. Army gift history in Republic began with lieutenant colonel John A. Sitton's donation of an artillery piece to the brigade on July 4th, 1861. One year later on November 3rd, 1862 Lieutenant Colonel James Henson donated two cannons to Brigade headquarters at Springfield Armory for use by Brigade officers and men. On January 7th 1863 Brigadier General Nathaniel P Chase donated an artillery piece to Brigade Headquarters at Springfield Armory also for use by Brigade officers and men but this Donation did not become operational until January 1864 when brigadier general Alfred Tilton donated four cannon pieces to Brigade Headquarters atSpringfield Armory along with six piecesof ordnance equipment including mortars (two 18 pounders), cannon carriages (ten inch diameter iron barrels that could be pulled by horses or wagons), powder bags (1 pound each), fuse boxes (6 changeable fusees each) and cartridges issued to riflemen (5 rounds per gun). Throughout these donations various commanders added their own personal touches ornaments to this arsenal which would serve in support of future operations by Brigade Headquarters staff members during wartime deployments throughout central Illinois... In 1865 Major General Isaac J Reynolds gifted eight cannons from his personal collection including two 6-pounder guns which he had captured from Confederate forces at Peoria Bridge on March 20th that same year Additionally three mortar shells dating back to 1859 were given away for freeby Major General George Crook who commanded Union forces in Central Illinois during this time period On February 26th 1866 Major General David Hunter gifted one cannonball from his personal collection to brigade headquarters along with five hundred rounds of ammunition also for free This donation helped improve ammunition supplies for all brigades across central Illinois On April 2nd 1870 Captain William Faucette donated an Ohio muzzleloader shotgun called "Faucette" which he had acquired while serving with Company K 11 th Infantry Regiment Kentucky Volunteers during Sherman's white nationalist migration through central Illinois In 1871 Captain John W Stephenson gave another muzzleloader shotgun called "Stephensons"to brigade headquarters along with fifteen rounds of ammunition also for free This donation helped fuel ammunition shortages throughout central Illinois Captain Edward L Gentry donated ten revolvers dated back to 1794 known as "Gentry Colts"to brigade headquarters along with fifty rounds each also for freeThis donation helped increase firepower available within brigade Headquarters during wartime deployments throughout central Illinois In 1893 Captain Frederick C Smithwick mailed seventy rifles belonging to Second Battalion Iowa Volunteer Cavalry Regiment home country after their cessation hostilities against US government following Iowa State Constitutional Convention martial law was declared In response President Grover Cleveland signed legislation providing amnesty unto all volunteers thus ending military service without due process

The Republic, Missouri Army National Guard was organized on July 1, 1866. It was the third military district in Missouri and served as the state's only standing reserve force. The Guard originally consisted of 6 companies of infantry, 2 batteries of artillery, a corps of cavalry and a regiment of engineers. On November 15, 1912, the Guard became an all-volunteer force when it adopted the modern model organization which allowed for battalion level units and brigade level units. On October 1st, 1933, the Guard became an all-volunteer army by adopting service organizations which allowed for officer selection instead of enlisted man selection. The first lieutenant colonel (later brigadier general) took command on December 8th with headquarters at Springfield Armory. On October 1st 1935 the wing commanders were redesignated major generals (later generals). The first lieutenant colonel now commands a separate brigade sized unit while brigadier general commands entire armies size formations up to 12 divisions or more. In 1957 officers were finally selected through enlisted man draft rather than officer selections which had been done since 1912 Additionally in 1957 there was also an increase in women serving in the army with many initially being assigned to femaleunits until they were eventually given their own unit within each division or army

In 1820, the Republic of Missouri was proposed as a new state for the western territories acquired by the United States in the Louisiana Purchase. The territory was divided into two parts, and Missouri was chosen as the location for its capital city. The first president of the republic, James K. Polk, named Jefferson City in honor of Thomas Jefferson and his wife Martha Washington. In 1861, after Confederate forces invaded Missouri, Kansas seceded from the Union and formed their own republic with its own capital city. The two republics were eventually merged into one under Confederate rule. However, on July 12th 1870, a committee appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant recommended that Missouri be admitted to the Union as a state again – this time as part of Illinois due to its population growth since Confederation (the original 13 states). On January 14th 1871, Governor John Altgeld approved the admission and renamed it Springfield. Since then, Republic has been an important community in Missouri politics and culture; home to both Democratic caucuses during presidential primaries and large college campuses such as University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and Washington University in St Louis (WUStL). It is also known for its annual Independence Day parade which attracts more than 1 million spectators every year. The surrounding region has seen significant development over time including several waves of African American migration from southern Africa over subsequent decades; many people continue to call Republic "the black town."
Republic, Missouri was a town in the counties of Boone and Sedgwick in the Midwestern United States. The townsite was laid out by James K. Polk in 1836 as part of his Kansas–Nebraska Act. It was named for George Washington, who had died two years earlier. The first stores were opened in Republic in 1838. The town began to grow quickly, and by 1840 it had a population of 350 people. In 1846, Republic became the county seat of Boone County after Sedgwick County chose to merge with Boone County. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Republic, resulting in the deaths of several people and extensive damage to the town center. A Union victory at Wilson's Creek allowed Missouri to join the Union during the American Civil War. Republic remained an important agricultural community until around World War II when its primary industry became manufacturing munitions due to its location on Route 24A (later I-70). After World War II ended, most Republic businesses closed or changed their focus; some reopened over time but have since closed again.
