The Marine Corps sent gifts to residents of Raytown, Missouri since World War II. Gifts may be items like a rifle, a fishing net, or a boat. The gun was used in peacekeeping operations during the Vietnam War and has been kept in storage ever since. In 1957, the Marines donated an amphibious assault vehicle to Raytown's city government. The car is still in use today and can be seen parked on Main Street near the town library. In 1970, the Marines contributed two SMG rifles to local law enforcement officers. The rifles were used by police officers during protests against Nixon's presidency. In 1984,Raytown gave away an MH-6A Dolphin Helicopter to the Marine Forces Reserve Unit stationed there. This helicopter is used for Search and Rescue missions when it comes down in difficult conditionsnearby homes or businesses. The helicopter was donated by Mayor Rick Koonser and his wife Cindy Koonser during their campaign for office in 2004."

Raytown is a small town in southwestern Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of Ray County. The town was founded in 1847 by John and Anna Ray from Illinois. The first post office in Raytown was established on July 10, 1847. In 1850, the community changed its name to Raystown after James RAY, one of the original settlers. The town's second post office opened on October 15, 1850 after it moved from its original location two miles north of the present-day town. In 1859, the first railroad reached Raytown and became a key factor that helped develop the local economy. By 1870, there were four businesses inRaytown: a general store, an express wagon shop, a saddlery shop and a shoe store; all operated under one roof until they were displaced by more efficient rivals within five years. By 1890 there were 12 businesses inRaytown: three stores (the general store, an express wagon shop and a saddlery shop), two hotels (the Peoria Hotel and the Eastern Star Hotel) and eleven residences including nine clustered around what is now downtown Raytown Square; most of these residences had been built prior to this time as part of larger blocks or subdivisions that had become popular during this time period throughout much of Missouri due to cheap land availability following passage of the Kansas–Nebraska Act in 1861 which granted free land east of Texas to settlers wishing to move westward into what would eventually become Kansas Territory). 2It should be noted that although some establishments achieved success beyond their initial locale (e.g., hotel & restaurant operations expanding into other towns or incorporating within larger cities), for most businesses inception & growth came from within their immediate locality with few subsequent expansions outside their original borders - thus maintaining village/borough character while greatly enhancing rural economic development opportunities across much eastern Missouri during this era...
Raytown was founded in 1857 by Colonel James W. Ray, who donated land to the town. The town was named after his home county of Randolph, Missouri. In 1870, the first post office was established in Raytown, and in 1876, the first school opened in Raytown.
