The Raytown Coast Guard Museum is a living history museum that preserves the history of the Raytown Coast Guard. The museum has items from the 1800s through to the present day and displays various artifacts related to coast guard activity in and around Raytown, Missouri. The Raytown Coast Guard Museum was established in 1984 as part of the effort to commemorate the centennial of the United States Coast Guard. At its inception, it was one of only a few museums in America dedicated to preserving coast guard heritage. Today, there are more than 30 museums across America devoted to maritime history, with at least 10 in Missouri alone. The primary function of the Coast Guard Museum is education; however, there are also several special exhibits which focus on different aspects of coast guard history including: maritime law enforcement; world shipping accidents; military service during World War II; and local coast guard activity during Hurricane Katrina. There are also numerous exhibits about American coastal defense efforts during bothworld wars as well as other emergencies such as tsunamis and hurricanes. One important aspect of museum operations is that donations are continually accepted from individuals, businesses, organizations and governments throughout America for storage and display at our facility. These donations help support our mission to preserve coast guard heritage while providing opportunity for people of all ages to learn about this important institution.

Raytown is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 319 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Raytown was James Meeks in 1836. He and his family moved to the area from Illinois. In 1840, John and Nancy Smith settled in what would eventually become Raytown. They were the first black citizens of Raytown and they raised two daughters there: Nancy (1842-1929) and Mayme (1845-1927). In 1847, Augustus Earp founded a sawmill here which became one of Raytown's most important economic engines during its early years. In 1865, General John Jumper arrived with about 150 men to occupy land that had been claimed by the Ulysses S. Grant Land Office for military purposes near present day Springdale Boulevard and North River Road. The men built a log cabin called "Horseshoe" on this land which served as their headquarters until they were ordered to leave by General Grant on December 15th of that year because he felt they were not following his orders closely enough regarding Indian removal activities in central Missouri. On February 25th of 1870, after much debate among local leaders over whether or not to incorporation as a town, an actwas passed by the men voting therein ratifying the formation of Raytown as an officially chartered town under the name "Springdale." On March 3rd of that year residents voted 3-2 to change their name from " Springdale" to "Raytown." On July 10th, 1886 Raymond Earp shot Deputy Sheriff Tom Callahan while Callahan was arresting him for horse theft outside Ofelia's store in town; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of the county line dispute between Cass County and St Francois County over jurisdiction over raystown/springdale....

The Coast Guard was founded on May 6, 1917 as the United States Shipping Board's first marine police force. In 1951, the Coast Guard absorbed Operation Neptune's Spear which became known as America's Second World War effort. The Coast Guard currently has over 12,000 employees and provides law enforcement, search and rescue services, maritime security and environmental protection along with support for other Federal agencies. Additionally in 2003 Congress passed legislation authorizing $40 million per year for grants specifically earmarked for homeland security gifts These funds would go towards purchasing items such as counterterrorism technology such as body cameras worn by law enforcement officers and expanding counter intelligence capabilities through technology purchases such as facial recognition software .
