Raymore, Missouri is a small town located in Ford County, Missouri. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,065 people living in Raymore. The population has grown since then by 363 residents to 4,914. The town was founded in 1855 and named for John Raymond, an American politician from New York who served as United States Representative from Missouri from 1857-1859 and 1861-1863. In 1930s two brothers who ran the family grocery store and post office were among the first residents of Raymore to own homes. When Interstate 70 bypassed Raymore in 1966 it lost its largest resident with only 374 residents remaining until 2014 when that number had grown to 521 residents due to new development around the school district boundaries The town still functions as a small retail center with a few stores including one clothing store which remains open today despite being closed for several years due to bankruptcy filings; two restaurants; two barber shops; one welding shop; three churches (one Baptist and two Methodist); and one courthouse which is used as a community center According to the United States Census Bureau, Raymore has a total area of , all land.
