Poplar Bluff, Missouri is a town located in Boone County, Missouri. The population was 1,946 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Poplar Bluff was John Witherspoon who arrived in 1820. In 1830, Levi Coffin and his family moved to Poplar Bluff from Illinois. Jens Müller, a German immigrant settled in Poplar Bluff in 1838 and started a bakery which still stands today. In 1861, when Arkansas became an United States state, Poplar Bluff became part of that state as well. However, due to its location on the border with Missouri it remained unaffected by the war and only saw heavy military activity during the years leading up to it. After the war ended, many residents decided to stay and continue their businesses while other families left for various reasons such as farmland becoming available elsewhere or better opportunities farther away. By 1880 there were just under 300 people living in Poplar Bluffs with most of them being farmers or traders who did not have much need for a town square since they were able to connect their fields directly to larger markets using routes such as the Raccoon River valley or main roads running through central Missouri). The beans were first roasted by Antonio Blanco and Sons before being acquired by Joséfina Peñalosa y Compania in 1891. Shortly thereafter, Italian immigrants founded La Caza Coffee and Tea Co., which became one of the largest coffee companies in America. In 1912, Dutch immigrants founded Doepfer Coffee & Tea Company, which became one of the largest Dutch-owned coffee companies. However, it was Mexican immigrants who truly made a name for themselves as coffee roasters and brewers throughout North America during this time period. Among these pioneers were Manuel González de la Casa (1870-1937), who founded Sociedad Mexicana de Café (SMC) in 1915; Francisco Flores (1892-1976), who founded Los Angeles Coffee Company; and Jesús Gomez Álvarez (1920-2009), who became president of Grupo Azteca S.A./Mexican Coffee Corporation (GAC/MEC) in 1957. In 1938, La Casa merged with another Mexican company to form cooperatives called Peralta Bros./Café Fría en Común among others. This affiliation allowed each cooperative to produce its own blend of beans while still belonging to a larger organization. Unfortunately, this arrangement came to an end when La Casa lost its share of ownership within GAC/MEC to Brazilian interests in 1970). At this point, espresso began becoming more popular than filter coffee as people started searching for better tasting beverages outside of their home countries’ kitchens or cafes settings where espresso was commonly served cold or over ice cream or other desserts

Poplar Bluff is a small town in thefork of the Missouri River, in southern Cass County, Missouri. The population was 2,624 at the 2010 census. Poplar Bluff was founded by pioneer settlers in 1837. It became a post office in 1847 and a city in 1917. The first permanent settler in Poplar Bluff was John Dickson, who came from Scotland in 1837. Dickson named his land "Bluff," after the bluff on which he had landed his ship when he first set out for America. He built his first home on what is now Main Street near present-day Post Office Square. By 1840, Dickson's family had moved to what is now Park Avenue and Second Street corner (now Third Street). Isaac Smith also settled here around this time; he named his land "Smithfield." In 1845, James White settled here with his family after moving from Virginia City, Nevada Territory. White started building homes on what are now First and Second Streets near present-day Post Office Square; he later donated land to make into a town square. In 1865, Joseph Tilton arrived from Vermont and began buying land here; he donated part of today's east side of town to make into an open space where businesses could operate during the day and be used as a nightlife district at night. Tilton renamed his settlement "Tiltonville" after himself. In 1890s, other pioneers such as George Stephenson opened up businesses along what are now Fourth and Fifth Streets near Post Office Square; these pioneers were responsible for developing much of downtown Poplar Bluff today including most of its architecture including many famous buildings like Stephensons Hotel and local train station (now known as the TRAX Depot). On October 4th 1897 while all residents were gathered together outside Stephensons hotel celebrating their new city charter having been ratified by vote not long before they convened inside Mayor Jenson Williams' office located just off Elm Street SW metamorphosed into Jackson County seat due to lack of voter turnout only one man showed up to vote that night despite being registered vehicle registration number Vandalia Wagon Works mowery
