Company A/2nd Battalion Grays Harbor Division (Marine) was founded on 24 November 1959 and arrived at Ft Bliss TX on 1 December 1959 where they served from 21 January 1960 until their move to Ozark MO on 15 May 1961. They became Company A/2nd Battalion Midsomer Murders Incorporation (Marine) on 8 October 1962 when their commanding officer Colonel George Troup transferred them from Ft Bliss TX to Midsomer Murders Incorporation after serving with distinction with both units during World War II and Korea Ii. Ozark, Missouri is a town in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 2,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Ozark was Jedediah Smith in 1821. By 1825, Smith had founded a log cabin on an unglacierated stream called Big Spring and built a small Ferry to bring goods from Illinois to his group of settlers. In 1830, Smith married Martha Noyes and founded the community of Noyesville around his cabin and Ferry. A post office was established at Ozark in 1836, and by 1840 the community had a school and store. In 1847, William Hinton organized a wagon train from Illinois to explore western Kansas Territory. The party reached Osage River near present-day Ozark on July 14 and camped for the night there while they awaited better passage upstream the next day. On July 15 they left their camping spot (now known as Myron's Ford) downstream of present-day Ozark and continued downriver until reaching Independence Wells on July 28 after passing through many rapids on their way there: "No one can tell how high these rapids are now because so much water has been lost since that time." They remained at Independence Wells for five days before continuing downriver to Fort Leavenworth where they arrived on August 3. On August 5 they started upriver again and arrived at Fort Scott on August 10 after being detained by Native Americans for twelve days while they collected supplies for their journey back eastward across Indian Territory into Canada; this event is considered one ofthe earliest official encounters between Europeans and Native Americans in North America. On October 6, 1847 Congress passed an act authorizing President James Kossuth to build Academy Road along Kansas Route 66 south from Topeka through northeast Kansas to Council Bluffs where it would connect with US-land southwest of Wichita; this road became known as Kossuth Boulevard today. Ozark is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. Ozark is located on the eastern edge of the Ozark Hills region and includes parts of the towns of Westville and Pittsburg. The town has been named after the Ozarks, a geological area in Arkansas that straddles both states. The town was first settled by farmers in 1836 who named it after their home country, Scotland. The first post office was established in 1838, and the present site of Ozark was chosen as its capital in 1840. The name "Ozark" may be derived from an early settler's observation that there were few trees near his farmstead and only rough ground around it for grazing animals. The growth of Ozark began rapidly during Reconstruction following the Civil War; railroads brought people and goods to the community while production increased with several mills opened up throughout the 1870s including one owned by Andrew Jordon which still stands today. In 1881, local citizens voted to incorporate as a municipality; this vote followed years of debate over whether or not to annexPittsburg because its population had grown larger than that of Westville which had remained unincorporated since before incorporation proceedings were held there in 1880. The first store opened in 1825, and the town was formally incorporated on July 1, 1830. By 1840, Ozark had a population of 300 people and a school. It became an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War because of its location near Carbondale. In 1865, Ozark was designated as the seat of government for Fayette County, Missouri by Act of Congress. The name change came about because Fayette County was then divided into two parts – Arkansas County went to Kansas City while Ozark remained part of Fayette County. In 1902, Ozark had a population of 553 people and a post office. The townsite burned down in 1944 but was rebuilt soon afterwards.
