After independence, Overland went through several name changes before dying out in the mid-19th century.
In 1865, the Union Army overran Overland, Missouri and captured much of the state. The town of Overland was burned to the ground and its residents were forced to flee. Today, there is a small park in Overland that includes a reconstructed courthouse and jail.
