A post office was established at Mt Pleasant in 1839, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1865, John Hargrave founded what would become known as The Grosvenor Hotel which still stands today 5 blocks south of Main Street. In 1886, James Bogue organized what would become Stroudsburg Savings Bank which still exists within its original building on US-63 east of town. In 1907, Obadiah Phelps donated land to build an airport which would serve the community for many years; now known as Eastern Arkansas Regional Airport (EARR). O'Fallon also became home to Stroudsburg State University when it opened its doors in 1927. Today, Stroudsburg State University continues to offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs including law enforcement and criminal justice studies as well as medical science and dentistry among others. The economic development of O'Fallon has come about through several endeavors over the years: manufacturing plant closures due to industry consolidation throughout the 1990s; numerous business moves into new buildings downtown during2006-2007; aberrant weather patterns that have resulted in lows double digits degrees year-round since 2007; current efforts by city officials to attract more high-tech businesses with an initiative called " Gateway To The Ozarks"; various special events held annually such as Homecoming weekend or Oktoberfest that bring people into town for shopping and entertainment purposes
