O'Fallon, Missouri is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Irish immigrants who named their settlement "O'Falia" after one of their families. O'Fallon is located on State Highway 3 south-southwest of Kansas City. The first European settlers in what is now O'Fallon were Irish farmers who arrived in 1834. They named their community "O'Falia" after one of their families and built a small log cabin on the site that still stands today. Over time, other Irish immigrants came to live here and soon there were several schools and businesses in the community. In 1868, a group of Americans founded the city of Kansas City and choosing to move to an area with low taxes chose O'Fallon as its new municipal center. By 1890, there were over 100 residents living in O'Fallon; it had become a busy commercial center for rural Jackson County with stores, churches and breweries lining Main Street. When World War I started in 1914, many people left O’Fallon for military service and by 1918 there were only 20 residents left in the town. However, during wartime business continued to grow as goods became available local producers couldn't produce enough products to meet demand outside Kansas City or St Louis so prices went up and people began leaving again. Businesses closed but then reopened when war ended which helped keep the community going until the early 1920s when it all stopped growing again due to Prohibition violations In 1948 – just two years after John F Kennedy was elected President – O’ Fallon was incorporated as a village under state statute No 28-2149 which stated “The Village shall be governed by Rules prescribed by this Statute governing civil government within Village boundaries . . . . All property within Village limits subject to Township ownership or management shall be vested forever with said Township unless surrendered or conveyed hereinbefore” However because of high population growth rates for villages since then village leaders have lobbied for statehood trying unsuccessfully every year since then but no action has been taken even though they own most of the land inside township boundaries

O'Fallon, Missouri is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,684 at the 2010 census. O'Fallon is part of the St. Louis Metro Area. The first permanent settler in what would become O'Fallon was James McDonnell who arrived in 1784. McDonnell and his wife named their settlement after the Falls of Ohauchusetts in Massachusetts. In 1814, Colonel Elijah Bancroft established a military outpost on the banks of the Osage River to provide protection for travelers through that region during the War of 1812. In 1836, Governor John Pemberton moved settlers from Baltimore City to present-day O'Fallon as part of a land grant to General Andrew Jourdan for his Indian campaign against Native Americans near Vandalia Heights in central Illinois. General Jourdan named this site "O’Falaone" (meaning "place where water falls"). Today's downtown area was laid out by developer Alfred Haines in 1909 when he purchased 640 acres east of town from Judge Augustus Kelley for $5 per acre ($ or .24 per head). By 1930 Haines had developed over 8 miles (13 km) of roads and 400 residences on almost 2 square miles (6 km²). The result was an impressive new city centre with office buildings, stores and restaurants dating back to at least 1915; now known as Downtown O’Falaone which includes most of the old commercial district as well as many residential areas still extant from pre-World War II days when prices were much higher than today's rates In 1947 Drury Lumber Company became America's second largest lumber producer when it merged with Norway's Aalborg Timber Co., making it one of the largestaglered companies west of Chicago . Over time other employers followed: American National Paper Co.; Monsanto Chemical Manufacturers Inc.; Dow Chemical Company; PepsiCo (); Bechtel Corporation (); Armour Electric Manufacturing Co., etc.; until all but one have either closed or been absorbed into larger competitors since then - leaving Downtown O'Falaone largely intact as an attractive live/work/play destination despite having lost some major businesses during economic downturns
