Nixa, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 926 at the 2010 census. Nixa is located on the eastern edge of the city of St. Louis and is bordered to the north by Interstate 55 and to the east by state Route 58. The first settler in what would become Nixa came from Illinois in 1839 and named it "New Madrid". In 1855, John Sibley founded a sawmill in what became Nixa and developed it into a small town with a post office and store. By 1870, there were 801 residents in Nixa. That year, a school was built for teachers and students grades K-12 was opened. A fire destroyed most of the buildings in 1903 but not before young Jesse Ladd plowed money down the well to buy new land for settlement In 1907, J P Richardson organized an agricultural society which purchased 640 acres (252 hectares) southeast of present-day Nixa from Alfred Ickes for $15 per acre ($4 million at current prices). This property later became known as Chouteau Park after French explorer François Chouteau who explored that area during the mid 1800s. The park today features several golf courses including one designed by Arnold Palmergrass In 1916, when World War I began drawing near, General John J Pershing decided to move his troops headquarters from Fort Donelson to nearby Saint Louis because enemy activity had increased along I-44 corridor between Saint Louis and Kansas City On October 10th 1916 local citizens voted not to annex their neighboring town of Florissant despite Pershing's recommendation that they do so because they wanted more control over their own economy The lack of annexation resulted in an increase in taxes levied on people living within 1 mile (1 km) of either side of Highway 24 which ran through both towns center

Nixa is a community in far western Missouri, United States. It lies on the border of Rush County and Jackson County, at the confluence of the Osage and Missouri rivers. The population was 1,663 as of the 2010 census. The early history of Nixa is difficult to document because no written records exist from before 1823. However, it is likely that it was named after a Cherokee chief known as Nixi or Nochi-ka-tah ( meaning "the place where there are many streams"). The first permanent settler in what would become Nixa arrived in 1824; they were led by James Kline. In 1829, local judge George Hogue purchased land east of present-day Nixa from Robert Ewing for $1,000. This purchase allowed for the construction of a small town on this promontory overlooking both the Osage and Missouri Rivers. In 1840, Judge Hogue sold additional land near present day Nixa to Jno. Ayer for $2,500. This new parcel included a store and two rectangular buildings which still stand today – one dating back to 1841, and the other to 1865. The town grew quickly as people began settling around these new properties: by 1850 there were nine homes in Nixa and its environs! By 1860 there were twenty-one homes in all – including four schoolhouses! Today most residents live within walking distance of their homes or businesses thanks to advances in transportation since then such as Interstate 70/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard which runs through town center just south of Interstate 44/US 65 Business Loop (I-70). Nixon's Ferry served as an important link between Rush County on the north side and Jackson County on the south side until its closure in 1929 due to lack of funds; however, evidence suggests that this ferry operated sporadically throughout much of this time period. Many meals tax free were provided by Nixon's Ferry passengers during this time period! One interesting note about Nixon's Ferry is that it may have been home to America's first watermelon farm – established by Johnnie Dixon in 1916! It wasn't until 1955 when Highway 63 bypassed town center making it less convenient for residents; however business continued to grow despite this inconvenience with numerous restaurant choices available right off I-70 currently occupying every major block between US 65 Business Loop (I-70) & US 64 Business Loop (Ulysses S Grant Boulevard). Today’s plethora of options can be attributed largely to advancements being made withinTown Center property itself such as development taking place along I-70/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard NE & NW corridors providing easy access both arterial traffic control features & destination restaurants catering primarily towards interstate travelers (& lastly those living nearby enjoying quick downtown conveniences!).
Nixa was founded in 1871 by a group of men from Illinois. The town grew quickly, and in 1881 it became the seat of Nixa County. By 1907, Nixa had a population of over 1,500 residents. The town was renamed Nixa after J.B. Nixon, an entrepreneur who helped create the area's economy.
