The Nixa, Missouri Coast Guard Station was founded on February 1, 1892. It was the first coast guard station in the State of Missouri. The station is a part of the Gulfport-Biloxi area and provides security for the region. It is also responsible for law enforcement and maritime operations along the Mississippi River.
Nixa, Missouri is a town in Benton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,973 at the 2010 census. The name means "New Crossing" in the local Native American language. The post office at Nixa was established on July 12, 1851, and was renamed Nixa in 1861. A depot was built there in 1864 for the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1865 the town became part of Des Moines County and had a population of 514. It lost its county seat status in 1870 to Rock Island City and then regained it from that city in 1903. In 1907–1909 Nixa passed through a time of great transformation with the arrival of John Davenport as governor of Kansas; he named it after himself as an act of gubernatorial largesse to settlers near his home state line ( Diamondback Springs being about 20 miles north). He also founded the towns of Wichita Falls and Fort Worth Texas on what were once Indian reservations within Iowa Territory but which now make up most of Benton County; during his time as governor many western farmers relocated to this area seeking better prospects than they had experienced east of the Chicago River where their cotton plantations still thrived despite heavy competition from new industrial growths southward. Davenport's successor as governor moved quickly to shore up support for Nixa'sposition by offering land grants totalling $5,000 each—an offer second only to that made by President Abraham Lincoln for Milwaukee, Wisconsin two years earlier when he visited that city during his campaign for Ulysses S. Nixa, Missouri is a small town located in Boone County, Missouri. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1836 and named for General James K. Nix, who served as military governor of Indian Territory during the 1840s. In 1856, Nixa became a town charter member. A post office called Nixa was established in 1858, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first settler in Nixa was John McGowan, who arrived on horseback from Virginia on July 10, 1836. He built a log cabin near present day Maple Hill Road and named it Walnut Grove after his family's trees that he saw along the Potomac River. By 1840, McGowan had five children and nineteen grandchildren living in what is now Nixa. In 1856, when Kansas Territory was created from parts of Indian Territory following the United States annexation of Mexico City into America via Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, James K. Nix became its first military governor with jurisdiction over all of Mexican territory west of the Arkansas River (the area now included within Nebraska). As part of this assignment, he surveyed mileposts along the new border between Kansas and Nebraska to ensure that travelers could easily find their way back home should they encounter trouble while traveling through these newly acquired territories. One such milepost was situated just south of present day Nixa on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard (then known as Pine Street) which later became State Highway 64A/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard today. On November 15th of that year (1856), Nixa's incorporation as a town resulted from an act passed by the Missouri General Assembly; however, it wasn't until February 2nd of 1860 that its name change to honor General James K.�Nix occurred when legislative members changed "Nixon" to "Nax". This situation may have been due to strong opposition among some residents to any form recognition by Washington D C Of Howland Smith�s administration - particular given Smith's close personal ties to President Franklin D Roosevelt - although most likely no real political significance existed beyond this slight change at that time... Although not mentioned specifically during his tenure as military governor or during his speech before Congress introducing Kansas’ admission into the Union on January 30th 1861� � concurrently � local newspapers did report general news about events taking place east across state lines including Kit Carson�s failed raid into Texas � territorial councils were discussing various measures necessary for defenseless Indians under our care� � items noted include: $1 million appropriation for stockade fortifications around Town; road construction program; establishment order #2 1st Cavalry Regiment stationed at Post; $200 per capita allowance for settlers.� It should be noted that because Native American leaders continued functioning freely within their traditional domains following US annexation there are no records extant reflecting any formal dealings or negotiations between them and representatives from Washington D C Regarding tribal membership or land rights.� Notwithstanding this lack thereof�����������During his tenure as military governor���James K.�Nix also began implementing many progressive reforms��such as creating schools for Indian children ������� �������������������������� �������������� ��������������� ����������� ���������� ���� ���� ��������� constituting one side effect��of which remains unknown today but may have involved either providing education opportunities or lessening hostilities between white settlers and Native Americans.� Lord bless him!
Nixa, Missouri was founded in 1836 by the merger of two small settlements, Nixa and White Sands. The site for the new town was a bend in the Missouri River where a ferry stopped to take travelers downstream to Independence. The first settlers arrived in late 1836 and soon had a school, store, and church built. By 1840, Nixa had a population of around eighty people. In 1848, an act of Congress created the township of Nixa out of parts of White Sands and neighboring townships. The new township was named for General James K. Polk who served as Ulysses S. Grant’s Secretary of War between 1849-1853; he also represented Iowa in the United States Senate from March 4th through September 5th, 1850. In 1860, while part of Kansas Territory, Nixa voted against secession from the Union because it felt that its interests would be betterserved within the newly formed state of Missouri (which seceded ten days later). The town quickly adopted Methodism as its religion and soon had a large congregation with many buildings erected for religious worship including an academy which became known as “Nixa College” after the town became known for its educational opportunities. During World War II, Nixa played an important role in providing food supplies to Allied forces during Operation Overlord; it also produced munitions used by Nazi Germany at Auschwitz concentration camp which killed six million Jews before their extermination camps were liberated on April 6th 1945. After World War II ended in 1945, most residents left or were forced out due to economic instability brought on by Reconstruction finance Acts passed following America’s war victory over fascism and communism.
