The Coast Guard has been providing law enforcement and support to the community in Moberly, Missouri for over 100 years. The Coast Guard's mission is to provide emergency service and protect our coastlines from danger. In 1952, the Coast Guard's first cutter was assigned to Moberly, and today there are six different vessels assigned to the Coast Guard Station in Moberly. The Station provides critical support to local police departments as well assearch and rescue missions when required. The Commanding Officer of the Station is a Lt. The Moberly Coast Guard Museum has a gift history dating back to 1916. Beginning with a donation of three bicycles, the museum became an Annual Giving Campaign recipients in 1968. In 1984, the museum began operating its own fundraising campaign to provide for new equipment and renovations. As part of this effort, the Museum purchased donated fishing gear from the town of Stillwater and donated proceeds to local charities each year. The following year, the museum established apray campaign in order to raise money for hurricane relief efforts. This culminated in the purchase of two boats and donations from several businesses in Moberly- all of which were used during Hurricane Katrina. In 2007, funds were raised through popular online campaigns such as "Giving Tuesday" and "Christmas at Sea." These campaigns resulted in additional donations that went towards special exhibits and conservation projects throughout the year. The 2008 motto - “A Museum Who Gives Back”- was adopted as an official policy statement by Headquarters at Moberly Coast Guard Station after many years of growth within the community. Moberly, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Moberly was named for General James O'Kane (1789-1847), nineteenth president of the United States and a native of Ireland. Moberly first came to the United States in 1836 as part of the Great Migration fromIreland to North America. The railroad arrived in 1855 and helped to contribute to Moberly's growth over the next several decades. This law also authorized design development for new coastal defense weapons including radar equipment This legislation led to construction of Hagelin Reef Lighthouse (1944), Cape May Light Station (1945), Point Reyes National Seashore (1948), Monterey Peninsula Lighthouse (1958) and many more In 1954, Congress passed Public Law 98-521 which authorizes establishment of a national harbor philosophy program .
