Moberly, Missouri is a small town in Armstrong County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,670 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Moberly Creek. It is located in the valley of the Missouri River and is just east of its confluence with the Arkansas River. The community was founded by pioneers in 1856 as a trading post on what is now known as State Route 54 (now Interstate 70). In 1867, it became a city when it was merged into Armstrong County. Moberly had a railroad depot until 1957 and several stores before that. The last store closed in 1978. Moberly's history can be traced back to 1856 when pioneer George Aiken founded Moberly Creek Settlement near present-day Springfield, Illinois on land he purchased from Joseph Dixon for $5 per acre ($140 today). On July 4th that year, Aiken named his new settlement after his hometown of Moberly, Kansas (then part of Mexico). He also donated some land to the county for its capital stock fund; this area now includes downtown Moberly. In 1865, Armstrong County was created from parts of Hardin and Ottawa counties by act of the legislature; however, only Armstrong and Greer counties were laid out at this time. By 1870s most of Hardin and Ottawa counties had been laid out including Moberlytown which would become our central business district today due to its location along Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue (now I-70/I-435) during connector construction years 1951-1957. Moberley grew rapidly during America's Civil War era because many men traveled south to fight for Confederate forces rather than stay home and provide support to their families back East through agriculture or manufacturing work (a common practice among Americans at that time). As war ended in 1865 boredom began setting in among these soldiers who wanted nothing more than to go home so they could tend to their families but found themselves unable to do so due primarily to lack of transportation opportunities down South (the Confederacy couldn't build roads like we do today!). So instead these soldiers started blogging about life aboard ship while supplies lasted - hugely popular then & still very influential today! So much so that one blog even remains online archives all throughout every major conflict worldwide! After the war ended many soldiers returned home but decided they didn’t want another Reconstruction period where things were essentially same as they were before – too costly &omplicated emotionally speaking (& there wasn’t really anything left worth fighting for either!). So instead they took up farming – something which had always been an important part of their society & economy – but did it well because there wasn’t Union pressure telling them otherwise! Eventually around 1920 or 1930 most farmers turned away from farming altogether preferring increased production levels brought about by synthetic fertilizers etc., resulting in loss/gain areas across both rural & urban center over time hereabouts! But despite this changeover people hereabouts have always Hang Gliding Club Open Year round!] It wasn’t until World War II when things changed again because munitions companies needed accessto water resources (& other factors)...!! And local farmers weren’t going out into fields anymore supplying munitions plants with water either! Resulting: Many homes were destroyed due floods caused by heavy rains typically occurring during late summer months according timeshare agreements between companies...!! Morse and his wife, Lottie Bogan Morse, as a peaceful village on the banks of the Missouri River. The Osmonds purchased land around Moberly in 1850 and began to build homes there; they were one of the first families to make their home in what is now eastern Missouri. They were followed by other early settlers such as John Dooley and his family, who built several hundred acres (240 hectares) along present-day Indian Road just north of town in 1858; this tract became known as Dooley's Fields after him. In 1892, when organized municipalities were created within Jackson County, Moberly was chosen to be its county seat; it remained so until 1907 when Jackson County was consolidated with Kansas City into that state's new government.[2] Moberly experienced significant growth following World War II when many servicemen returned home and brought with them new ideas for community development and Stakeholdership Model Community Development (SWCD). After years of work by local leaders – most notably Mayor George Waddington – Moberly has become one of East MO's most vibrant communities dating back to its incorporation as a municipality on October 1st 1946[3]. Today, Moberly enjoys strong economic ties with neighboring cities,[4] including Kansas City proper,[5] while its unique community spirit remains intact thanks to its rich history and vibrant culture
