The first roaster in Maryville was James Fenton and Sons. By 1912, local businessman John Pritchett had purchased the business and began to roast beans on his farm next door. The first commercial espresso shop opened in 1914, serving milk and sugar with each espresso. By 1924, the population of Maryville had reached 10,000 and businesses extended beyond coffeehouses into other industries such as cotton ginning and lumber production. In 1936, a grocery store managed by Mrs. O'Connell opened followed by a bank in 1939 which became known asMaryville National Bank. In 1957, a post office was built- this would be replaced in 1983 when the current building was erected
Maryville, Missouri is a small city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,879 at the 2010 census. Maryville is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 1839, three German farmers named Wilhelm Kapp and Johann Hesse founded what would become Maryville on a tract of land that they had bought from the Osage tribe. In 1841, when five other German farmers arrived to help with management of the farmstead and surrounding country, they formed the town of Maryville around their new settlement. The name "Maryville" was chosen because it was one syllable long and easily pronounced by Europeans who were unfamiliar with Indian names. The first white settler in what became Maryville was Philip Wagner in 1840; he built a cabin on a hill overlooking the town which still stands today. By 1845, there were eleven settlers living in or near Maryville: six Germans, two Irishmen (John Murtagh and Cornelius Kelly), and four Americans (John Clements). In 1865-1866 Confederate general Joseph Easley fought an unsuccessful battle against Union forces at Big Creek Bridge over the Little Missouri River south of present day Maryville. As a result of this battle some men who had been taken prisoner were released and re-enlisted in Easley's army; these men took up residence among those newly arrived Germans in nearby Saint Charles Township about east of present day Maryville. These men formed what is now known as Wagner's Battalion (or White battalion) which fought at Standin', Perrys Ford & Bristow's Plantation during the American Civil War era (). After General Easley's surrender surrendered all Confederate forces north of Kansas City on April 9th 1865; all remaining German soldiers except for Wagner’s Battalion withdrew into Missouri until such time as their individual units could be disbanded or otherwise authorized to return home by Ulysses S Grant Those same individuals who had originally enlisted with General Easley’s army also found themselves subject to military draft after Union troops captured several large plantations south of Springfield where many Germans lived including property owned by Colonel John Pendergast whose family resided adjacent topresent day Saint Peters Churchyard southwest of downtown Maryvill eXcept for two companies commanded by Captains George Laughlin & Michael Ryan that successfully defended Springfield against Union attack on October 15th 1862

Maryville, Missouri is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1827 by General David Beatty and his wife Rebecca Beatty. Maryville is named after Martha (née Peel) of Scots-Irish descent who lived near the site of the present town in 1819. When General David Beatty arrived in 1796 from Kentucky, he found that there were few settlers in what is now Jackson County. He purchased land east of present day Maryville from Captain John Sipes and started building a home on what are today called Main Street and Broadway Streets. In 1827, Beatty donated 2 acres (0.81 km²) to the town for use as a public square. The first school was built south of present day Union Depot on West Main Street between 1897 and 1898 by Elisha Hawley and Drury Willsbury (the first blacksmith in Jackson County). A new school building was completed west of Union Depot on North Broadway between 1912 and 1914 by Miss Lula Hutton Richardson with funds provided by Mrs. Jno Templeton Mathews who had come to live in Maryville with her family after her husband's death while serving as an officer with Ulysses S Grant's army during the Mexican–American War
