Marshall is a small town in Phelps County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. In 1860, Marshall was the county seat of Phelps County and the only city in that county. The first post office in Marshall was established on February 2, 1869. The city of Marshall was founded by Jno. Wirth on a tract of land near what is now Hinsdale Road and Market Street in 1872. Wirth named his new village after General Ulysses S Grant's son-in-law and successor as Commander-in-Chief of American forces during the Mexican–American War, Robert E. Lee: "Grantvillage". When Villa captured Mexico City on October 20, 1916 (4 years after Marshall had been founded), most people believed Marshal would become Mexico City's new capital because it lay just outside the city limits of St. Louis; but President Wilson decided to move Washington's Executive Mansion from Washington D." On November 3, 1916 (10 years after Marshal had been founded), an act was passed by the Missouri legislature providing for election to be held within one year thereafter for all municipal officers except sheriff and recorder; these positions were then appointed by Governor John Pemberton with recommendation from Mayor Auldhamer Crouse through a Special Committee which included Judges Murray and Stephenson In 1934 there were 1,031 residents in Marshalls census tract while 1/3 lived in other parts of Phelps County without any marshall presence

In addition, Crowley was posthumously awarded departmental citations for bravery under fire (1998), leadership under difficult circumstances (2002), and superior performance (2007).

Marshall was a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States until the early 20th century. It is now a ghost town. The first settler in Marshall was John Marshall, who arrived in 1837. The town was laid out by Joshua Pickett and Wm Hodge in 1861. The first school was built in 1872; it burned down the following year. Marshall had one grocery store and six blacksmiths before World War I destroyed all of those businesses. There were no churches until after World War II when an Episcopal church was built and continues to be used today as a community center. In 1944, the U.S. Army's 1st Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment stationed at Fort Riley moved into Marshall and began staging maneuvers there that led to the warlord Joseph Stalin's Invasion of Estonia on June 16, 1940 which eventually led to World War II. After the war ended with Japan's surrender on September 2, 1945, all US troops departed from Fort Riley; however, some units continued training at Bradley Air Force Base until November 8 of that year when they pulled out for Good Friday parade leave which lasted into Saturday morning [May 15], 1946! On November 10 of that year Marshal had its last day of business regular business being conducted as usual with only two exceptions- First day of December 1946 when Christmas decorations were put up and second day because nothing occurred during Halloween season 1946 as celebration marking Gambia Independence Day did not take place here like it did elsewhere throughout Southwest Missouri due to lack thereof planning by then Mayor Harry Ahern - see article below about what happened on this particular date? "One could imagine how things looked back then...perhaps three or four days leading up to Christmas would have been sufficient time for most residents to get their homes ready for holiday cheer but since there wasn't anything scheduled during Halloween month everyone just went about their lives without much ado." (Harry Ahern) In 1947-48 only one store remained open regular business except for closed on Tuesdays - this store operated under new name "Creek Creek Trading Post". There were also no services available other than mail delivery from post office located two blocks north across street from original Store location (the old post office building is still standing). School district discontinued operations here effective January 1st 1948 continuing operations at local high school located two miles southstill functioning today although grades have been reassigned to nearby schools.) Marshalls initial population estimate given by Territorial Governor James Kobert around October 1840 may have been inaccurate due lack of reliable sources supplying such information at that time even though population growth rates reported by various newspaper articles between 1840-1850 indicated an increase over 1800% within 100 years! However latest census figures released by USDM providing updated boundaries for St Francois County circa 2010 lists total population including current residents at 1211 persons! This makesMarshall perhaps the smallest incorporated city/town west of Kansas City!"
Marshall was founded in 1836 by a group of investors who traveled from Illinois. The town sprang up around the new steamboat landing on the Missouri River, and soon developed into a thriving community. Marshall quickly became known for its agriculture and manufacturing capabilities, and its location made it an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In addition to its significance as a commercial center, Marshall also played an important role in the development of the American Civil War. When Union troops marched through the town early in the war, they were met with fierce resistance from local militia forces led by Marshal's mayor, John A. McClernand. This successful defiance of Union military power helped keep Marshall alive until Confederate forces arrived and burned it down in 1862.
